Hello am having a problem with my medion md-1704. i recently purchased a dv cam-corder and was excited to be able to rip these files directly into my computer - so i bought the wire that would allow me to do so, and connected.. .. but nothing. and really, since i haven't had any need for my fireiwre up until this day, i guess i never knew that it didn't work. So i just finished formatting - hoping that the plug and play would locate these drivers, and i just can't seem to make this work. I've checked with Medion's home site, as well microsoft's download center for anything i could get me hands on, but still nothing. i've downloaded driver packs from various sites on the web, searched through endless pages of troubleshooting help and tried "installing new hardware" with numerous amounts of failed attempts. Does anybody happen to have any suggestions - possibly a link to download drivers? Anything?? Thanks for your time. Am looking forward to hearing back from somebody.
Fistly you may if you have'nt already have to load programme that you got with the camera it will have the camera firewire driver with it. Secondly, look in My computer>hardware>device manager and look down the list for your firewire ports(IE1394) and ensure it is enabled and has'nt got a '!' next to it.
You are looking in the wrong direction.
You need to install the firewire driver for the motherboard, so get the part no. or serial no. of your board and download from manufacturers site.
Next you need the camera driver to enable your camera to connect to your pc as it will not connect otherwise, so go to the camera manufacturer site and download drivers.
Ok start from the begining, you are plugging camera in to what port?, as your mobo does not have a firewire port, or have you fitted a firewire pci card?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR answering my post..
.. however
there was never an installation cd - i was figuring that windows would just plug and play it ..
and secondly, no - it's not in my device manager.
I've tried installing new hardware - picking the firewire from from the list, but have no other information about it (no drivers or manufacturer to) and medion no longer lists the specs for this computer so i can't even really find out.
I'm actually having a really hard time with this - and i'm actually very computer savvy.
Any other ideas?
Please advise ..
and really - thanks again for replying.

hello again and thanks for following up on me.
i just recently purchased a jvc dv-camcorder (model no. GR-D30U) and no, it never came with an installation disc.
I checked jvc's web site for anything close to a helpful download, and they don't even offer support for this.
i opened up the computer and checked the board - it's a Winbond 83697HF
i went to Winbond's home site and was able to dig up a tutorial on this particular board. Now, if i'm reading correctly, and once i get into the motherboard i begin to lose my savvy, but is it possible that this board ONLY supports IEEE1284 - and not the required IEEE1394?
As i said earlier, i begin to lose understanding once we get this deep, so please forgive the ignorance if any.
.. i've also serched Medion's site (the original compuetr manufacturer) for drivers and am unable to find exactly what i need.
It's not listed in my device manager anywhere.
I will go to "Add Hardware" .. once it searches for any new hardware it asks me to pick from a list - which i search through, and find no available heading for my firewire or 1394... so i have to "Add a New Hardware Device"
After searching through my system one more time, i am finally able to see "IEEE1394 Bus Host Controllers"... which i select.
the next screen is supposed to show a list of manufacturers pertaining to this item, but none are present, so i choose "I have a disc" and begin searching through every piece of possible software support thati may have, which is every installation disc from the original purchase, plus numerous amounts of others.
.. and as you could well imagine, still no firewire.
What am i supposed to do?
This is begining to drive me crazy.
Do you have any other other suggestions?
..and thanks again for the reply - you're actually my only hope right now (obi-wan!)
