Sometimes booting from XP disk wont detect your hard disk, the problem is because the IDE driver which is needed for the identification of the hard disks are not at all avaible with the XP CD. So u have to download the corresponding IDE driver for your hard disk and then u can install that from the floppy drive during the installation . I think on installation XP set up will ask for a driver installation (third party installation). U can do this by using a floppy disk . If the floppy drive is not all available in your laptop then u can use softwares which can mix the IDE driver along with the XP set up U have. A lot of softwares are available for download for this purpose
