Hard drive identification

Yes, there are ways to connect this drive to your current computer. The specifications indicate that the DiamondMax VL uses a 40-pin IDE connection.

You need an universal drive adapter (SATA/IDE). I use an older (USB 2.0) version of this: https://www.newertech.com/products/usb_universal_drive_adapter.php . This comes with external power and the cables/connections for power and data connection. I preferred the older version that came with a replaceable USB cable. Most of the current versions have a non-detachable USB cable; however, they do work at USB 3.0 speeds. Amazon lists several; make sure you choose one that supports 3 1/2" or 3 1/2" and 5 1/4" drives.

I hope this helps. Note: these adapters are useful. However, if you have stored data that you want to recover, you may need to use data recovery software before attempting to write to the disk or reformat it. Check the disk with antivirus or anti-malware software first.

After installing the hard drive in the computer then boot up with the Windows 2000 installation CD. Proceed with installing Windows. delete the existing partition , create a new partition, then format the hard disk in NTFS file format, follow the instruction to complete the installation.
You will also need the product installation code to complete the installation and you will need to activate the Windows license by the Internet or by phone. You will also need to install the motherboard device drivers.

I would guess that it is a diamond max driver, and therefore the jumper setting for slave should be no jumper at all. But in case I am mistaken, here are all the jumper setups for Maxtor drives, choose the one that looks like your setup and then choose the correct Slave setting:

the soft ware that comes with it will also be erased, as it is a windows based identification,seagate free agent has mac utilities on its site, try to find out on www.seagate.com. you will find one for mac format and mac installation .
