Tv seems ok by static and now, no sound (or very faint)

Hi there, I have a hatachi tv (C2980FS). Unable to find much info on this tv on the net but it is having problems and i dont know if i should put it down.... It turns on ok and has on screen display fine, so can change channels and sound and get into menu etc, however, every channel is covered in snow and you can hadly see the picture at all (u can really juts make out outlines amounst the snow/static). Also, picture is black and white with some colour washing in every now and then, osd is colour. I have also tried using the av plugs and it also has the same snow. there is no sound as far as i can tell, however if i turn the volume right up, i hear faint soiunds but i cant make out if its static/audio circuit picking up random interference. Thinking it is relating to the AGC but need help as this is effecting av, not just tuning from what i can see. Any help much appreciated. I'm not a service man but have made some good repairs before to things... Cheers

i have also checked for vold joints and reapplied solder to as many components as i can get to (i estimate about 70% just incase there was a bad track or loose component).

The problem you're describing sounds like a tuner problem. BUT you say that you have the same problem with A-V input too. That's weird!!! Possibly the electronic TV-AV switching circuit is messed up and stuck in the TV (tuner) position. If this is the case you DO have a tuner problem and a switching problem too.

Thanks, I think you are correct, av seems to show same kind of static (you can see the same faint picture as on tv). will start looking into tuner and see if i can get that going first before looking at the av switching area. Thanks for your help.

talk with a tv technician as there is a way of removing the static covering of a tv screen that may be your problem
IT can be cause by cleaning the screen with the wrong type of cloth which produces static electricity and affects the screen performance

Fuse blows off near on/of switch

Fuse keeps blowing indicated that you have a short on the power supply section. This can't be fix by replacing the fuse alone. For more info click the link for more info.
You can isolate the trouble if you have a knowledge in electronics and have tools and test instruments or else look for a qualified technician to troubleshoot the power supply. This is quite fixable.
Hope it may help you.

Philips tv quit in mid show

Since the TV is only 2 months pld, it must be covered under Warranty. Just take it to the Service Centre and get it fixed. Froim your description it seems that the Horizontal Oscillator or Output section has a short circuit.

Hitachi Multisystem TV model # C2980FS ..not powering on

First off you gotta tell us whats the right model and make as you have two listed here and both of these flybacks are avail. trough The parts are not listed online but get the toll free # or leave a message for them to get back to you. Now A flyback is not a user replaceable part for starters. It is soldered in and theres very high voltage inside these sets even after they are unplugged, and its not adviseable to replace a hi-voltage part in a set, unless you know the issues involved with replacing such parts. Good Luck
