Clean the lens with a clean, dry and soft cotton swab. use also microduster to remove accumulated dust inside the lens assembly.

yes you can access it without taking any part, just the cover of the vcr/dvd unit. i've never use any type or brand of dvd lens cleaner, just clean, dry and soft cotton swab and aircompress duster usually use for computers. yes u can blast some pressurized air duster in there. if the problem is still the same after these precedures, maybe its about time to send it to a shop for further analysis. maybe the optical lens assembly needs to be replaced. good luck!

check the gear inside for broken parts and check the belt also

Put dvd in and it makes clicking noise and doesn't detect it.

The Clicking sound happens, when the lens which reads the cd's,dvd's move off from its original position, this happens when the particular equipment is moved or pushed. In some rare cases, when you insert a very scratched cd, dvd. This can be solved by the particular tv company technicians, or else your warranty will be void.

Try checking whether the lens works perfectly, by playing different kinds of content ( audio cd, mp3, dvd ) etc... If any works, then your lens is working perfect. Later, try cleaning the lens using the " cd lens cleaner kit ". It will be available in any computer accessories related shop.

Thank You.

Dvd player wont read dvds

Hello Dickey396,

I'm sorry to hear about your problem. I will do the best I can to help you.

There is basically only one cause of a dvd player not reading the disc's and that would be the laser itself. Either the laser is dirty and can't read them or is broken.

If it starts making clicking noises as well then the laser assembly will not move on the track that guides it back and fourth.

First thing I would do is try to clean the laser using a len's cleaning disc. It looks like a cd but has some small soft brush's on it.Do not try any other method as you can damage the laser it is fragile. (You can buy one of these at most places that sell dvd players)

If this does not work then your next troubleshooting idea is to rule out if the laser assembly is unable to move on the track or not. Like I said it typically will start making a ticking noise or something similar.
If this is the case then you really can't do a whole lot. You can try taking the cover off the dvd player. Plug it in (dont touch anything inside it) and try playing a disc or something so you can watch for the problem. You will see gears skipping for example..You can then try to correct the problem ( Do so if you have some knowledge of electronics/mechanics )

Lastly the laser may have just went bad and does not work anymore in which you will have to replace it.

Post back if you have any further questions or comments please feel free to post back. Thank you for choosing Fixya!

Dvd player makes noise, doesn't read discs

mine did the same thing it just kept ticking when i wanted to play a disk, id take to top off with the four tiny little screws and hoover it, mine still makes a bit of noise but works x

Dvd do not loads

Our started doing the same thing about a week after the warranty ran out. It has to do with the alignment of the discs being loaded. here's a work-around that works for us:
Open the tray
Choose which disc you are going to watch and use the Change Disc button to push the selected disc to the back (ie, if you want to view Disc 1, discs 3 and 4 will be visible in the tray).
Look down the center holes of discs 3 and 4... manually move your tray left-or-right to align the holes with the tray.
Push the Direct Play button on the top right of the unit for your disc of choice (Disc 1 using the example above).

hope that helps... I've searched for a while and played around with the unit (with and without the cover on) trying to figure out a way to re-align the tray, but no luck.

Disc Skips

The non-technical answer would be that the lens needs to be cleaned. This is the first step for this type of problem. There are many things that can get the disk drive lens dirty like smoke, incense, dust, moisture. Open the unit and open the DVD cover. You will see the lens that reads a DVD. Get a cotton swab (the ones for cleaning out ears) and some isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and moisten the cotton swab with the alcohol (moisten not soak) and gently (I mean, do not push hard or scrub hard) rub it on the lens. Now with a dry cotton swab, do the same. Let it dry for a minute (longer if the swab had more alcohol and it might have dripped down) and close the unit. Now try to play DVDs and let us know if it worked. Thanks.
