The boarders of the screen are cut off.

The boarders of the image are cut off, as if the TV thinks it's larger than it is and has expanded the picture beyond the boundaries of the screen.

SOURCE: full picture not in screen

Sounds as though you have a leaking Capacitor in the horizontal section. The problem capacitor is likey to be orage in color and rated at 2kv or higher. Located next to the High Voltage transformer ( Flyback transformer ). Be very cautious if you are changing this, or any part yourself as the picture tube can charge high voltage ( up to 35,000 volts ) for a long period of time. Always discharge the picture tube first before servicing a set.
Replace the capacitor with a like part with the same or higher voltage rating and the same capacitance number ( mfd, pfc,or such ) as listed on the side of the part.

SOURCE: Picture on Telefunken 72 cm TV expands beyond screen size

Your screen somehow got switched to theatre/cinema mode. There is a setting on the remote that attributes to aspect ratio. Sometimes it is called "ASPECT". Look for it, and press it until your original screen aspect shows.

How do I make the picture bigger so it fills the screen and not have black bands at top and bottom

Banding of the screen usually means that the aspect ratio of the broadcast is different than the screen size ratio. Most modern TVs are 16:9 ratio. Most modern TV broadcasts and movies are as well. In those cases, when in HD mode, you will see the picture fill the entire screen. Older broadcasts and many syndicated reruns are in the old 4:3 format and will be banded. Also, some movies are in larger formats than 16:9 and will reduce in size in order to get the entire picture on the screen. That being said, most TVs DO have a stretch and.or zoom feature that will expand all images to full screen size. Be advised that this can result is image distortion, especially of the 4:3 ration broadcasts. Others will have some of the picture cut off and you may see some items such as network logos, etc. partially chopped off in this mode.

How do I remove the boarders

Hello jcsmith794,

Welcome, and thankk you for using FixYa!

To answer your question: The "boarders" you see are due to the video being displayed being at a smaller vdeio display setting than the TV can handle.
Example: If your video is 640x480 because it is coming from a Wii or DVD Player device, and your TV can handle a display of 1280×720; then you will see boarders around the left and right edges.

Solution: Search the display menu of your TV and see if it has "Automatic", "Panoramic", "Wide", "Zoom", or "Fit to Screen" options. This will eliminate the side boarders, but may also cut some of the image off of the top and bottom of the display as well.

Have a great day!

I want to replace an old single handle builders no-name shower, about 15 years old with a gromhix 34436 unit. My shower is tile. What steps should be expected? Is this practical?

Usually a shower stall will boarder a wall where you can access the fixture by cutting a hole in a boaring wall to get at it. If it boarders a closet or someplace thats not conspicuos, there may already be an access hole. Once you have access to the old fixture, you can remove it and, as long as the new fixture is the same size or larger, it shouldn't be that much of a problem. You may have to make the hole in the tile larger but, you should be able to do that with a 90 deg. grinder. Usually most, if not all, shower valve(single) have pretty much the same configuration. If your pies look to be in good condition, you should be able to work with piecing in the new fixture. If you cannot access the fixture from the back sie, well, thats a different story and, alo of work in redoing tile you probably won't be able to match and, a little bit of drywall work but, if you only cut the hole a sbig a you need it,you use some sort of fired decorative tile to cover the repairs spot. It's up to you.

Check the menu settings for the picture. You may be expanding the image to fill the sides, in the process, cutting the top and bottom.
