A) Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery
B) Laptop closed turn it over, lay it down on a soft cloth on a table, Battery Bay Compartment AWAY from you.
C) The Thermal Cover is the largest cover on the bottom of the laptop. Goes from the right side to the middle, and very close to the Top and Bottom.
There are four Philips head screws to remove in the cover, before the cover can be removed.
1) Under the middle of the Battery Bay Compartment, and at the Top/Left corner of that rectangular vertical vent, in the Thermal Cover.
2) At the Bottom/Right corner of that vertical vent, in the Thermal Cover.
3) In-between the two horizontal vents, located at the Bottom of the Thermal Cover.
4) Straight above the screw removed in 3), is the last screw to remove. There is a round shaped vent, inside a square at the top right of the Thermal Cover. The screw to be removed is at this vent's Bottom/Left corner.
Once all the screws are removed, ease the Thermal Cover up from it's left side, (Middle of laptop), at an angle, then remove.
D) In the opening with the Thermal Cover removed, there is one Philips head screw to remove, then the ODD can be removed.
(Optical Disk Drive. The DVD drive)
This screw is located..............ack, ack,.......fzzzt.......ffffzzzt,......
JUST KIDDING!
The screw is located at the Top/Left of the opening, and down in the opening.
See the white rectangular label on the left side of the opening? Come straight across to the right, from it's top/right corner. The Philips head screw down in the inside edge of the opening, is the one to remove.
Once this Philips head screw is removed, you can push the DVD drive out, from the Thermal Cover opening.
You will see a small rectangular part of the DVD drive, that you can access, from the inside of the Thermal Cover opening.
Push the DVD drive out a little, then grab it from the outside, and pull all the way out.

SOURCE: ive got an acer aspire 5720 and the dvd/cd drive
Hi,
Have you tried the manufacturers website (i.e. Acer) and looked for the drivers there. They should definitly have them if you make sure you put in the make and model of your computer into the specific drop down boxes.
good luck
SOURCE: How to remove dvd drive from aspire 5720
what do you mean completely remove it take it out or uninstall it
there should be just one screw directly behind the dvd drive in the centre of it. you might have to remove the cover for the memory/cpu to get to it. remove that screw, start the laptop, eject the dvd, turn the laptop off and then gently pull the whole drive and it will slide out.
