Black square in the middle of the picture

I have a Craig 20 inch TV, less than a month old. A black square appears randomly while viewing. Edges of picture are viewable, but square takes up majority of space. Initially, I hit the menu button and scrolled through the menu screeens and the problem disappeared. Now, I can not get the square to disappear. I can change the channel and the pioture has no problems. The problem is not associated with just one channel.

You have the set configured to display "text 1 or Text 2" in the closed captioning menu. You will need to turn closed captioning off to get rid of this box.

Bless you! All I did was hit the closed captioning key a couple of times and it went away. This has been driving us insane for weeks!

Black square in middle of picture

your captioning or "text" is on. usually inside the tv menu. if not its your cable or dish box has captioning on. black box usually means its in text mode instead of CC thus the black box rather than text

Black square in middle of screen

Sounds like your closed caption is on. In the menu or on the remote there should be a setting or button for the CC. It seems to be in the text mode. Either turn it off or change the setting from text.

Black screen

I have a Sharp Tv that had the same problem with a large brownish or black square right in the middle of the screen. It only left about an inch around the edges that you
could see the picture moving in behind the big black block or square.I have DISH sat-elite and the book recomending that I check and see if the "caption settings" were on
or off. They were on. I turned the caption settings off and the large square diappeared.

Black square in middle of screen about 25in X 25 in

If a black square appears on the screen and you can see the picture around the edges, it means that the closed captions are on and set to "TEXT". Go into the TV's menu, navigate to the closed captions page and set the captions to OFF.

Black square covering up most of the screen

Try goeing into your Menu and see if you have the closed Caption on that will produce a black box on the screen if you have the owners manual look in there,if you don't have it you can go on line and download it from the manufactures website under Downloads Good luck Walter Grzybowski
