at the minimum, since you mentioned all the idiot lights coming on, your alternator is fried. have someone put in a new alternator. if it's still acting up, have someone go over the computer.

the battery says 12 volts but may be dropping to 4 or 5 under a load...i would suggest jumpstarting the car and see what happens.the battery should read in the high 12 volts and not less than 9.5 under cranking. the dash lights go out on your car when starting, and the alarm will go off ,and disable the ignition if the voltage is too low in cranking the car because the computer will shut it down and activate the anti theft.....check your battery posts are tight. best of luck

You could have a start that has gone bad and will need to be replace,or your having a Passlock system problem.
Your Passlock may need to relearn the ignition keys, if the
ignition lock has gone bad like my in-laws Grand Am Gt, here is what i
did so they will not get stranded any more. Buy a Passlock by pass
module for around $70.00. You can orderone from GMPASSLOCK.COM in the
mean time try resetting the Passlock. Good luck
Ignition keys relearn takes about 30 min to do. 30-Minute Learn
Procedure
1.) Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2.) Attempt to
start the engine, then release the key to ON; the vehicle will not
start.
3.) Observe the SECURITY tell tale light. After approximately 10
minutes, the light will turn OFF.
4.) Turn OFF the ignition switch, and
wait 5 seconds.
5.) Repeat steps 1 through 4 - two more times - for a
total of 3 cycles of 10 minutes. 3x10 = 30 minutes.
The vehicle is now
ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or
passwords on the next ignition switch turn from OFF to CRANK Important:
Turn the Ignition Switch OFF. The vehicle learns the Passlock
Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition
from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to
start the vehicle.
6.) Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the
Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password.
7.) With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs
will self clear after 100 ignition cycles.
Without a scan tool you may
have momentary starter interruptions while history clears itself.

Sounds like the starter. If you can locate it,tap on it with a hammer 3 or 4 times and try to restart. It may take several tries but should eventually start because starters don't quite fail 100%,they just kind of get stuck. If you can't find the starter, call a couple of parts stores or a dealer, someone is always willing to tell you for free to attract your business. It should work and you need a new starter.I put in a used one a couple of years ago and no problems yet,but the decision is yours.Good luck!
