I custom build my computer myself, it's been working fine for about 8 months and now i have this hard drive problem. the motherboard is an MSI 870-g45. The hard drive would work fine for a minute or two, then slow down to a crawl. It made a constant, steady, chirping (then reading) noise. this would go on for about 10 minutes. I highly doubt my hard drives are failing, as all 4 hard drives i put into the computer all did the same thing. They work fine in other computers. I haven't tested mine in someone else's computer yet.
Sounds to me like your disc controller in the computer (on the
motherboard) might be bad. Make sure you check your disk in the device
manager.
Since you built this computer did you install the Chipset drivers?
Also look into the Bios at the AHCI setting and change it. I have seen times when changing it made the system accept the drive.

BTW: I'm using windows 7 64 bit
IS installing chipset drivers necessary? i mean windows detects it. I'm not sure if the second drive i tested even works, because i don't have another computer to test it on. I messed around with the BIOS, but it didn't do much.
The hard drive was working before, even without installing additional drivers. I have no way to verify that the hard drive is failing, or if my motherboard hard drive controller is faulty.
