My phone was submerged in water for about 90 seconds. Will it still work and how long should I wait before trying it?

The phone was in its protective rubber case and I think it was not turned on. My 14 month old granddaughter was playing with it in the toilet which fortunately was clean water.

You should probably wait for a few days to ensure it's completely dry on the inside. I have heard other folks suggest that putting the phone in a bowl of white rice for a few days is a great way to dry it out. The rice will absorb the moisture.

Did the case cover the entire phone or just the sides and back like most?

White rice works, i dropped my phone in the pool and it works. Although if it was dropped in salt water or chlorinated water it will have corosion. But let it dry in the rice for about 4-5 days to ensure its totally dried out. Good luck!

My iphone 4 submerged in water and sence then the flash is on please advice

Turn it off!
If the water was salty, it gets a bit harder and riskier. If it was a salty water, you have to first put your phone in a non-salty water to get the salt off. Don't leave it there for long, just long enough for the salt to be gone. The time it took in the water it was dropped in is a good choice.
Now remember the first step, turn it off!
Wait for a couple of days. Wait as long as 4 to 5 days to be sure, because it takes really long for the phone to dry. Don't use a hair dryer! Don't put it on a heater. Just put it someplace dry and cool, not direct under the sunlight but also not in dark.
After waiting that long, hopefully your phone will return back to life. If not, you have also lost your chance with the Apple service, because they don't cover water damage. Try your luck though.

Ok i just ran mine so i put it in a sock with rice and ran it through the dryer will it surive

Generally that does not work if the phone has been submerged in water. It only works well if the phone has been spilled with a minimal amount of water. If it has submerged generally you want to remove the housing and use a blow dryer to get all the water out.

Hi May,

Don't worry.
Could you tell me if you have took the battery out after the cell phone went in the wash? When the cell phone went in the wash, you should not press any buttons, if you have pressed any buttons, may be the water will submerge in the cell phone, then the cell phone may be short-circuit.

At that time, you'd better take the battery out and check if there is any water in the battery.....you can get more information in our website:

May be sometimes the camera funtion will not work, this may be because the water have submerge in the internal struction of....to get more solutions, you may visit our website:www.1010store.com.

Dropped phone in water

SIM is probably bad or a little wet. but wait and let everything dry out and see if it works. Mine was soaked and the next morning worked fine. at least you probably won't have to buy a new phone.

My wife's LG 8550 got wet and now won't power on

If the phone was still on while it got submerged, then you may be out of luck. Had it been off when it was submerged, using the rice trick might have worked. I would try removing the battery, and drying it out some more, but the damage may have already been done. Sorry!

Phone

If it was submerged for only a few seconds, the damage may be minimal if the phone was promptly dried. Cell phones have a moisture sensing pad about 1-2 mm square located in the battery compartment to tell the vendor the phone has been wet. The pad turns pink on exposure to water. That says volumes about how common it is and and how sensitive cell phones are to the experience. That said, you may want to try these:

1) When you power it on, does it power up normally? The battery is probably fully discharged, so a full charge cycle is recommended.

2) If the display has blotches or fails to display at all, water may have damaged it. Not much hope in that case.

3) Do all the keys and buttons operate correctly? If not, it may be possible that some moisture is still trapped there. Careful disassembly and blow drying may help as well as a very careful polishing the contacts with a cotton swab or pencil eraser might remove any light corrosion. Always blow off the phone again before reassembly.

4) Many cellular services offer insurance for a nominal monthly fee. If you work or are around water a lot, it is cheap protection. So is the most secure case you can find. Next time.

I keep waiting for the vendors to offer a 'sport' or 'off-road' version of popular phones that have some nominal weatherproofing and will withstand a quick dunk. Sony used to make a personal electronics with a signature yellow-orange case that were so designed. I loved them, and their reliability.
