Question about Dell PowerEdge 2450 Server

1 Answer

Hardware issue My power light on the front of the console is blinking yellow indicating some sort of hardware/software issue. it is not software because i have formatting the hds are number of times. I was wondering if anyone has encountered this flashing yellow light and knew of any methods to pinpoint the problem. i have two of these servers, both are flashing yellow. i have tried swapping processors, RAM, NIC cards. In my mind all thats left are either the motherboards or RAID cards. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Drew, Sorry it took so long to answer this but somehow it got by me unnoticed. The flashing power LED typically means a power related issue. One of the great things about Dell equipment is they supply lots of diagnostic help. If you don?t have the original diagnostic disk you can download the software from this link. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R107682&SystemID=PWE_PNT_P3C_2550&os=WNET&osl=en&deviceid=10658&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=3&formatcnt=1&libid=36&fileid=142340 This utility is usually pretty good at finding hardware issues and is the first place to start. Let us know if you have any other questions and please don?t forget to rate the posting.

The yellow light of death...
The yellow light is used by the PS3 to indicate a hardware failure with the consoles motherboard. I'm sorry but you'll need to send it in to Sony.

When power on the power botton indicate 3 red light

This can be one of two things. It's either a power supply Issue (test this by unplugging all your power cables, then plugging them back in and see if a green light shows up on your power supply, if not, then there's your problem) or it's a hardware issue. If it's a hardware issue, you will have to contact microsoft and have them fix it.

"yellow light of death" had my PS3 for 2 years now going on 3 and ive been very pleased and have had no issues until today. out of no where when i turn on the device it flashes yellow and turns right back...

The yellow light is also know as the yellow light of death casued by a hardware failure. It can be casued ny over heating a bluray drive failure, a hard drive failure or even a powersupply failure. You know you have it when you power up the yellow light flashes then you hear some beeps then the red llight flashes. I would suggest returning it if you have that option or getting it fixed somewhere else as a last option.

Yellow lights

Yellow lights and blinking red lights indicates general hardware failure on ps3. If your ps3 is still under warranty call Sony and they will send you a new or refurbshed one. North America: 1-800-345-SONY (7669) United Kingdom: 08705 998877
Now you could try doing a few things (hey it's worth a try!)
1. Turn off the switch in the back and wait a few minutes. Turn it back on and try it again. If that doesn't work it may be dead.

My ps3 wont power up

try powering the system up by HOLDING the on;off button , it will reset all your audio and video settings . then plug the system using the AV cables (default) .

else, you should take it to an assastance centre for hardware issues checking . can be a problem with your RAM or GPU units that makes the system unable to startup it's firmware .

Blinking red light

General hardware failure. Usually the red light means either bad power supply or bad hard drive.

You can start by pulling the hard drive out and then power on the system.

More than likely it's a power supply / motherboard issue, in which case you'll have to contact Sony for repair.

You can reach them @ 1-800-345-SONY

PS3 Yellow light

There is nothing wrong with the PS3. I read in the users manual that when the the green light on the PS3 turns yellow or flashes yellow the PS3 is too hot and you need to turn it off. It has never happened to me because I keep my PS3 in a open area.

When the PS3 gets to hot you need to let it sit and cool for a little while and then you can turn it back on and start playing again. If the PS3 cools for a while and it still doesn't work you need to call Sony.
