Question about Canon Digital Rebel XT / EOS 350D Body only Digital Camera

Open Question

My 350D has suddenly stopped firing...

Everything seems to be working...the lens is focusing, etc. The camera seems to be stuck in a delay mode...pressing the shutter button has no reaction...yet if I switch the camera on and off, as it cones on I can hear the shutter fire..but it will not take another picture...if i keep it on the motor drive setting and switch it on, it goes on firing continuously by itself... Am wondering if it is the battery...or if a setting has changed (somebody else was playing with it...)

SOURCE: Canon EOS 40D shoots on its own.

Sounds like a software issue, try to upgrade or reload the firmware.

I hope it helps :)

SOURCE: shutter release delay

I have same problem with my Rebel XTI and asked the problem to Canon USA. Here is the answer of Canon USA and it seems worked with my camera.

Resetting the camera back to default standards may solve the problem.
Please put the camera in AF mode instead of MF. In order to reset the camera back to default standards, we recommend you perform the following
steps:

1. Turn the camera ON in the P (Program) Mode.

2. Press the MENU button.

3. Scroll over to the Tools2 menu, then scroll down to Clear all settings.

4. Highlight the Clear all settings option and press the SET button.

5. Highlight the OK option and press the SET button.

At this point, the camera should be reset back to factory standards.
Also, try a different lens. If the camera still does not work, then the camera will need to be serviced.

Hoping to help finding a way to solve your problem.

Sound like a broken ribbon cable in the lens. Needs to be replaced but get a quote as it may be cheaper to replace the lens with a secondhand one.

Dealy on snapping pictures

Check your focus modes to see if you are using one that is different to usual. When a DSLR has no focus lock it won't take a picture. Also verify that the focus motor in the lens is working ok. Google 'lens focus tests' and see what you can come up with.

Blurry photos, delay in capture

These Sony cameras including T70, T100, T200, T300 all have the same problem. There is a little black circular plastic piece in the lens that comes off the place where it is supposed to be. The piece moves around inside the lens and the focusing element can't freely move under the pull of the spring and the lens can't focus anymore. This happens after a good shake. Lens may stop focusing if dust gets in the focusing elements gear. This happens often if you put your camera in a dusty pocket, bag, purse etc.

Automatic focus not working

The D40x only autofocuses with the latest AF-S (and old professional AF-I) lenses. Most traditional (screw-type) AF lenses from 1986 through today will not autofocus on the D40x. If your lens says "AF-S," you're fine.
Most lenses sold today for the D40x are AF-S, and so is the included 18-55mm kit lens. Many non-Nikon lenses from Tamron, Tokina, Quantaray, Sigma and anyone other than Nikon still won't autofocus on the D40x. Try before you buy, but honestly, there isn't much the included 18-55mm lens won't do.
Autofocus systems are fast, but not usually instantaneous. You have to hold the shutter down halfway as you compose the first shot so the AF system can focus and lock, and then the camera fires instantaneously when you press the shutter the rest of the way. See Preventing Shutter Delay for more.

EOS 30D is slow to fire.

Are you sure you aren't in the delay setting in drive mode? This camera has 2 delay settings, one for 2 seconds between when you press the shutter and when it takes the photo, and one with 10 seconds delay - often used when you want to be in the photo (e.g. self-portrait or group photo).

If you aren't in the delay mode, then I need to know more about your settings. What shooting mode are you using? What type of photo are you trying to take (portrait, landscape, sports)? Are you shooting indoors, outdoors, bright sunlight, overcast, etc.?

Camera won't shoot with lens on Auto Focus

Talked to canon support, they suggested to send lense in for review/repair. They said it could be the motor, I think it was a gear problem based on the noises and jerkiness of the focusing action while in manual focus (manual focus gave out as well). Cost TBD - "would definately be more than $50. I shopped around and elected to buy a new lense rather than try to hassle with the repair, shipping, insurance, and the wait, etc. Besides, I have a deadline that I need the lense for, so repair at Canon really became a non-option. I think the cost would've been pretty much the same in the end as the new lense, since this wasn't one of the costlier of lenses to begin with.
