Large black square blocks screen

After a couple of minutes viewing the screen is almost covered by a large black square which blocks out videio content. Audio is unblocked. When in any set up mode square does not block video. Could it have to do with v-chip. Have tried turning this feature off to no avail. On a few channels a black rectangular block about half of the screeen size appears.

Most likely it's the closed captioning has been turned on. From your post I assume you have the remote control and able to access the menus so try to turn off the closed captioning. I'll be notified if you post something new.

Black screen

I work at at a school, and we had the same problem. Turns out, it a Closed Captioning problem.

We found the manual, and it states that "If a large black box covers 80% of your screen, the Text mode is probably set. Press 'Closed Caption' to turn it off." The "Closed Caption" button is on the remote. If you don't have the remote (as in our case), you can go to "Closed Caption" in the menu, and pick something like C4 and T4. That stopped the black box for us.

Black screen

I have a Sharp Tv that had the same problem with a large brownish or black square right in the middle of the screen. It only left about an inch around the edges that you
could see the picture moving in behind the big black block or square.I have DISH sat-elite and the book recomending that I check and see if the "caption settings" were on
or off. They were on. I turned the caption settings off and the large square diappeared.
