Sirius not working after taking to dealership for unrelated problem

I took my car to the dealership for issues with draw on battery causing car to not start after 3 days of non-use. They stated that the sirius unit was the cause of my drain. the unit is hooked up per instructions. Yellow wire to always on and red to ignition on ..properly grounded. The only display now on my once working radio is SIRIUS -- no indication of now signal or channels or anything--I tried resetting unit to factory settings - no help. I have double-checked all connections all seem good. When I use the menu of the unit to try and access the sirius id-- there is no ID --as in nothing comes up. I took it back to VW --they have no idea ... how can I resolve this?? Are there any ideas on what could cause this ? I have also checked all fuses in the system It is input to my radio through fm-modulator - again the unit appears ok ...but there is no indication of 'no signal' no channels, no id, the only display is SIRIUS on the screen I'm thinking the dealership fried my unit ...

I installed the unit to start with and the dealership did not change my wiring. i installed it using the power from cd changer located in the trunk area of the car. I have the red wired to ignition and yellow wired to always on --I verified with a meter when I installed it as to the right connections. The wiring has not changed--I checked that -- it powers on just fine--I believe that in their testing of my system they injected a pulse or crossed wires somewhere that caused my unit to short out ..just wondering if anyone else ever experienced similar symptons of a Sirius display but nothing else...

Same problem. But I run my receiver using an auxiliary power outlet. It was working fine when I turned it off. Tried to turn it on later and now I get nothing but the Sirius logo.

this is ages later -- but fyi - I bought a new control box for sirius and installed it and dealer wound up reimbursing me -it was their screw up even though they didn't want to admit it -fried the cd player that was in the trunk and then the sirius unit too -- i dont' trust the unnamed mechanic in dealerships - I like to know who is working on my car be it at the dealership or other shop ...

How did the dealership resolve the battery draw issue. Did they rewire the Sirius for you. If so they could have wired the unit wrong. If you have a newer vehicle most of the wires in the dash are a very light gauge and most fuctions are controlled by, what's called a Body Control Module. Some of these wires are not a very good place to draw power from not onlt could it damage your Sirius Radio it could damage the electronics in your car as well. I suggest getting it looked at by a professional. Then go from there.

Where is the starter relay located

how long does it take to drain the battery? If the starter relay is bad, it will prevent the starter from spinning or will keep it spinning. There is something else draining you battery. Try removing fuses one by one or groups and see which circuit is draining you battery. If it is a "new" car, remember that they have a slight current draw even if all appears to off there will still be a slight current draw.

I have a 2000 VW Beetle. I sent my car in to a local dealership service center to have the alternator replaced (because the old one was not working). As soon as I got my car back, I noticed the clock was...

having a faulty alternator in the first place could have caused this, I would think that if they did that work on your vehicle they would have rest those things for you no charge, But who knows anymore, you might want to speak to the service manager and remind him that your a good and CONTINUING customer, and maybe he will get things rolling for you

My 2004 jeep has an electric problem. The battery in the jeep dies over night. It's a brand new battery and connectors. The dealership thought it was from the driver door connection. They fix the door...

You have an electrical drain on the battery somewhere.

If I were diagnosing this issue at my shop, I'd use my multimeter to identify the baseline draw on the battery then start removing and replacing fuses one at a time and detailing the decrease in draw to identify what circuit is the source of the abnormal draw. That's the easy part...now tracking down what componet on the circuit is the culprit - that could take some time.

You could always install a battery quick disconnect into the vehicle.

My Sirius radio, factory installed in a 2008 VW R32, won't activate, even after a "soft boot". Sirius mentioned having the dealer do a "hard boot". What is that?

I hope this post finds everyone well who is having difficulties with Sirius Radio's trouble shooting advice to reactivate service. I tried to reactivated my service and had experienced all the problems that everyone has had on these forums. This is what works. It took me a lot of phone calls and I want to get the word out to everyone (regardless of Make, Model or Year of Vehicle)

First, a soft reboot does nothing and there is no such things as 'reseting' the electric system in your car. Second, there is no such thing as a 'hard' reboot to your sirius radio. All a soft reboot will get you is cold legs when you have to hold your car door open for 30 seconds in the middle of winter. All a hard reboot will do is cost you a lot of hard earned money at the dealership. Best case scenario is that your dealer replaces your entire radio and charges you $500+.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: Call Sirius Customer Service and ask for Technical Support. Explain to them you are having difficulty obtaining an activation signal. The technical support technician did the following (and it was the most intelligent thing I heard from Sirius)

1. Go turn on your Sirius Radio and tune to Channel 184.

2. The technician put a "dummy" ESN in on my account, refreshed and then re-entered my original ESN back into my account and then re-sent the activation signal. **NOTE** Make sure you write down your original ESN number before you ask to have them do step #2....there is no way for them to recover your original ESN if they put in the 'dummy' ESN and refresh.

3. Within 10 seconds of putting doing step #2, my Sirius Radio said, "Updating Channels" and worked great.

Takeaway from My Experience: I believe that once you let your Sirius Radio Service relapse and/or do not renew your subscription, a signal/frequency is sent to your radio to block service or reactivate your service. The problem must be an internal issue on Sirius where the only fix to stop this signal is to completely clear (or zero) out your original ESN, enter a dummy ESN, refresh and then re-enter your original ESN and then send the activation signal.

I hope this helps everyone.

2005 Accord

Check the battery terminals for corrosion. Remove both the positive and negative leads to the battery, and use a brass brush to remove the salt-looking build up. For added security, you can purchase dielectric grease from an auto parts store to ensure a good connection.

If this does not solve the problem, Bring the battery to batteries plus for a free battery check. If your battery is the issue, it may need to be replaced. If none of these solutions works, it may be an alternator problem or something unrelated to the electrical system (such as a fuel filter).

Sirius Stilleto 100 skipping issue

Usually this is a signal issue and it happens when recording indoors mostly, right? The signal dropps but only for a second or two so when you look at it its fine. you've probably notived it cutting in and out when "live" from time to time. Use your signal meter built in to the device and find the strongest signal location. If that doesnt work or its not the problem, update the software. If that doesnt work try running the recovery software but only as a last resort because you'll lose your recordings.
SIRIUS Device Recovery (SDR) is a software application that helps you recover your Stiletto (SL2, SL100 or SL10) in the event of a complete system failure.
The SIRIUS Device Recovery program retrieves the latest version of software for your Stiletto from the Sirius website. NOTE: Performing device recovery WILL ERASE the entire contents on your Stiletto: all music, Sirius recordings, channel presets and any user preferences. The Stiletto will be reset to its original factory state. You can perform the revovery from the Sirius Studio software that came with your device or http://www.sirius.com/mysiriusstudio
