Pressure cooker not building up pressure

My new Fagor 4 qrt pressure cooker did not build up pressure. I was cooking risotto with arboro rice, using 2 1/2 cups liquid. Steam escaped from round the lid and top. The cooker bottom was completely burned.

It sounds like the gasket might be out of place, or the slide to lock the lid was not pushed all the way up. I found this neat chart that helps you walk through any problems.

Hi there, I have sadly missed placed the rice cup for the 5 qrt pressure cooker, Can I use a standard measuring cup instead?

usual ratio for rice is:

1 cup rice with 2 cups water.
1/2 cup rice with 1 cup water.

etc
This works when cooking rice in a pot on the stove. Might be the same for a pressure cooker BUT I don't know.

You need to use the pressure lid, otherwise you are using the cooker like a normal pan. Here are step-by-step instructions, cooking times and water ratios for pressure cooking rice:

Sensor problem turning off during cooking

If this is a new rice cooker first try cleaning the thermal sensing unit by scrubbing any build up with a green brillo like scrubber, also clean the bottom of the rice pot where it contacts the thermal sensing unit.
If this doesn't work and your rice cooker is 1 to 2 years old replace the thermal sensing unit.

Purchased Durabrand Rice Cooker model HRC 18G working fine Is there a User manual for this cooker? All that is needed is ratio of water to rice including plain long grain and Basmati rice for 1 - 4...

Instructions quoted from the Durabrand Rice Cooker model HRC 18G manual...... 1 cup of uncooked rice rice will make about 2 cups of cooked rice. Add rice to the inner pot. Maximum four cups uncooked rice for the model. Many varieties of rice can be used including basmati, wild rice, arborio risotto, saffron rice and long grain rice. Whole grains, such as barley can also be prepared with the rice cooker, follow instructions on the package.

For every cup (160ml) of raw rice, add 1-1/2cups of water. For stickier rice add slightly more water, for fluffier rice use slightly less water.

When your rice is cooked, the cooker will automatically switch to the warm function and the yellow warm light will turn on. The cooker will stay in the warm function untill is disconnected from the wall outlet. The cooker will keep the rice warm 158F - 212F

Hope this helps, its quoted right out of the manual I have for my cooker
