Hi ser41sosa, my name is Joon, and I was going through this site looking for solutions how to fix my monitor and saw your post on "Flat Screen Trouble". I have a dell E172FPb lcd monitor, had it for several years now and suddenly the monitor doesnt display anything and gives out a weird pulsing sound every second. I dont know much about monitors and sincerely asking for your help/advice. If you know the solution to it please reply back to me on my email if possible. Thank you for your time and have a great day.

I had the exact same problem with this model, the 1000uf 35V capacitors need replaced, and I would also replace the 1000uf 16v capacitors also just to elimiate any future problems...
There are 4 transistoe c5707 these are used to switch off an on the back light circuit when these go bad thes cause power to do a on off pulse like you described these may be bad but i would bet that the solder hold them on the board is crack a very common issue i have fixed 100s of these monitors with out needing any parts at all they are know for bad solder joints cause they heat up and cool down so fast the the solder cracks. those transistors cost like 1.49 each if they are bad.
See if you can change the video cable and get the same problem. Make sure it is plugged in securely (both video and power cords).
If same thing happens with a different cable try a different monitor. Maybe if you don't already have another one, someone you know can let you use theirs for a day.
If neither option works, it's probably your video card. If changing the monitor works then it's probably your monitor either going bad or try reinstalling the video driver on your computer.
Let me know if anything works, I hope this helps
