I´m having this problem for a while, and I don´t know what to do. I´ve tried uninstalling all my devices and installing them again, and nothing seems to work. Note that the usb port works fine when I put something else on it.
I´m connecting the device directly to the usb port on my PC, and not to a hub. I will try charging the device up, though.I´m connecting the device directly to the usb port on my PC, and not to a hub. I will try charging the device up, though.

Need additional info. Has it always been this way or did it work at one point in time? Have you checked in Device Manager to insure the USB port(s) are in working order?
Hi, There could be some issues with the files format that is on the hard drive. you said that it could be recognized by the Mac mini, and the led. I would suggest you copy the files from it to the mac mini and then try formatting it on the Windows 7 pc. Another option is that there could be a setting on the registry that you need to remove to be able to use the hard drive. - try going to regedit and then look for this string : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} : then choose the one for usb and the look for upperfilters and lowerfilters. just rightclick on it and then delete it. After the restart. you should see the hard drive. Thank you for using Fixya. Your recommendation is highly appreciated for the free support.
Install the software first, then connect the usb and power cables, then turn on the unit. Here is a section of the installation manual :
Software Installation 1. Do not connect this device to computer yet. 2. Insert the utility CD into computer's optical drive, and then the installation window should automatically appear on the screen. If the installation window doesn't show up, go to "My Computer" and browse the CD. By executing the "index.html" file, the installation window will appear. 3. Click on "Private Folder Manager"/ "Playlist Manager", and then follow the on screen instructions for installation. 4. After the software had been successfully installed, see [Connecting to USB] for cable connection. Connecting to USB 1. Connect the plug of AC adapter to the connector marked "DC IN", plug the other end into an electric outlet. 2. Connect the USB cable to the USB connector. Then connect the other plug to computer's USB port. 3. Press the Power switch and then the blue LED will light up. 4. The computer will detect this device and you can start accessing the drive.

You can try using another usb port, or it might be that other things conncected to the usb are interfering with it. Try disconnecting things attatched to other usb ports (check in the back of the computer) but be sure that they're not important before you go ripping out cords.
I have Simpletech Signature Mini USB 500GB drive. All of a sudden, my computer (Windows XP) stopped detecting it. It does not have any external power supply. I tried to connect it to other computers still no success. I can hear the sound of hard disc spinning and red LED light also glows still I can not detect it.blue light lits just a second .
Change the USB cable. If not recognised by vista. Check also whether your USB drivers are properly installed.
If Printer is not at fault please take the copy or a test print log report by continuously pressing the Big buttton with LED inside. Before that check all the trays are in proper position and Powered.

Rafique
