That's depends...First, do you have the password to log into the modem? it seems that the default is admin/motorola. If that hasn't been changed, you could log in and remove the WEP key.

In addition, most modems and routers will reset to factory defaults if you press and hold in the reset button for around 30 seconds with the device turned on. Forgetting the password is a common problem. Don't be worry...Or if these all can not work, you can call or ask directly to the customer service of Most modems and routers will reset to factory defaults if you press and hold in the reset button for around 30 seconds with the device turned on. To restrict only the adminstrator can configure the router, there is a login procedure prompted for asking User Name and Password. The default User Name is 'admin' and the default password is the default SMT password, '1234'.

SOURCE: how to change router default name and password

you can't change the default name...that is always left blank, but you can change the password.

Access the user interface & click on Administration.  It should automatically be in the Management section at this point.

Enter your desired password in the Router Password field.
Re-enter to confirm the password in the next field.

Click on Save Settings.

For more information on working with your router, you can access the User Guide provided by LinkSys:

How can set my power mac g4 up so as that i'm the owner ....and why can't i download programs,or change my os default broweser

Hi.
I assume that you didn't get any disks with it either. Taking full control without disks is tricky, however you can take majority control - as long as you know the admin password.

Open system preferences (under the Apple menu) and select USERS.
You need to add a new user and to do that you have to unlock the padlock at the bottom-left of the panel that opens up. To unlock the padlock you need the admin password.
Assuming you have it, click the padlock - endter the password and then you can add a new user. Make sure you set it so that the new user can ADMINISTER THIS COMPUTER. Create a new password for the new user. Then underneath the name of the original user you will have the name of the new user and in smaller letters underneath each name you should see "Admin" If you don't see admin under the new user go back and check the Administer bit - NOT Standard User.
If everything is OK so far, look just above the pad;lock and you should see a small penel saying "LOG-IN OPTIONS". Click there and change the auto log-on to the new user name. Now close the windows (red button) and go back to the Apple Menu and select "RESTART"
When the Mac retarts it should come up with a completely different desktop and very few icons. Go back to the USERS control panel and go through the same routine we just used to add the new user but this time delete the original user.
You, the new user, are now in charge. You can download, install and do anything you want but the computer may still appear on a network as "Old user's Co,mputer"
To change the default browser, open Safari, go to Safari preferences and change the setting there. It's an odditty that Apple put the setting there - but there's nothing wrong with Safari as the default.
If you don;t know that Admin password you will need an Installation CD/DVD in order to change it.

Need to hard reset westell 7500 modem to factory defaults..cust chngd admin password and can't remember what they chngd it to and i need to get into modem

  • Note: Resetting your router to the factory defaults not only changes your router user name and password to the factory default values, but it also deletes all your home network settings. This includes the SSID and network encryption key. After you reset your router to the factory defaults, your home network won't be accessible until you reconfigure your router and all your network devices to use the same SSID and encryption key.
To reset your VersaLink 7500 gateway to the factory settings:

  1. Hold the reset button on the back panel of the VersaLink 7500 gateway for 30 seconds.
    • All your settings will be lost including network encryption information and any SSID information you have entered.
    • The gateway user name and password will revert to the default of Admin as the user name and Password as the password.

    versalink7500reset_425.gif

  2. Your VersaLink 7500 gateway is now using the default settings for the network configuration. This includes the default SSID and network encryption key. You must re-configure your VersaLink gateway to match your previous settings that were assigned to all other devices on your wireless network. Otherwise, no other network devices will be recognized.

How to setup wifi password

My Friend,
You can follow these steps to setup a wireless password.
>Connect your computer with a Ethernet cable to Slot number 1 on the router.(please don't connect to the internet port.) Just go to command prompt on your computer by typing CMD on RUN. >Type Ipconfig there and then you have to look for ipv4 address. >In this address search for the default gateway on the computer. >Type the address in the default gateway into the address bar on the browser. > Then this will ask you for the user name and password . Leave username blank and in password type admin. You will see the router set-up page . Go to the wireless tab and below that you will see wireless security tab. There you can name your network by changing name under ssid. And select the security type as WEP OR WPA. create the password fro you wireless . click on the save settings.

I have lost the security code and have a new laptop, how do i set it up to work

Hi!

If you don't remeber the wireless security code, maybe you still remeber the user and password to access the web management interface of the router.
Then you have to connect the laptop to the router by using a network cable. Open a browser window, type in the IP adress of your router and check the wireless setup section. There you can find / modify the wifi security code.

If you don't know the router's IP adress, then open on your computer a ms-dos prompt and type the command
ipconfig /all

it will display your current IP adress, subnet mask and GATEWAY. The gateway adress is the router's IP adress that must be typed into the browser.

If you don't remember the user and password for accessing the router's web interface, please refer to the router's user manual in order to reset it to factory default configuration, and then proceed as for the first installation of the router.

Hope it helped,

Bogdan

I have G604T rounter, but I could not find a WEP key, all I can find is P/N, S/N, and MAC. Where is the WEP Key? That is why I could set a wireless network. Thank you for your help.

Hi,
Th WEP Key is in the GUI of the Router.
You will need to get the Routers Default Gateway to get in the Routers setting to be able to find the WEP key.
Try typing 192.168.1.1 on your Internet Explorer Browser then press Enter this will ask you for a user name and password to get in the D-link Router that info may change if you changed it or possibly the ISP if the router was provided by the ISP.
Try Username: admin Password: password
User Name: admin Password: admin
User name: admin Password:
then press Enter try any of the combinations, don't worry this will not lock your router, if you get an Error 404 that is ok just type in the Default Gateway again.
In the Router Settigns you can find the WEP key under Security.
I hope this helps.

I don't remember my network key,so I cannot use it

Try to connect you computer with an Ethernet cord. If the Internet is working check the default gateway of the computer by typing "ipconfig" on the command prompt. Type the default gateway on the address bar. There you will see the login page for your wireless router. Check the default username and password from the router's manual and enter it. If it accept the user name and password, look for the wireless settings, password should be seen there. If not create a new one. If default user name and password doesn't work reset the router. There should be a reset button or pinhole on the back of the router. Press and hold it for 10seconds. Try again typing the default gateway on the address bar then re enter the default user name and password. If it work your router now do not have a network key (unsecured). You can create a new network key on the router's configuration page.

How do i lock my internet connection so others can't use my connection

Hi onlyforu48,

I see that you want to put Security on your Network Connection.

1. First we need to find out what Default Gateway your Router has, this depends on what Router you have. To find your Default Gateway we need to click on Start then click All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt, this will show you a black window with a blinking cursor.

2. In Command Prompt type in IPCONFIG then press enter, this should should pull up information showing your IP Address/Subnet Mask/Default Gateway, we need the Default Gateway info only it should look like an IP Address ex. 192.168.2.1

3. Once we have your Routers Default Gateway we will need to open Internet Explorer or any browser that you my have on your computer, type in the Default Gateway on the Address bar then press ENTER, this should prompt you for a user name and password. If you have changed your Routers user name and password please use the User Name and Password that you have created if you haven't changed any thing on your Routers user name and password then you can try admin for the User Name and password for the password or admin and sometimes you can just leave it blank.

4. Once inside the Routers settings page look for wireless then under wireless look for security this should give you the option to create a Network Key in your router, make sure your write down your network key on a piece of paper incase you may forget.

I Hope this will help regarding your Router security question, have a nice day.
