All u have to do is pull the carts forward at the little plastic tabs at the TOP. they will tilt forward (takes a bit of a pull to do it) and then u lift them up and out. color goes on the left (20)~ black goes on the right (70). just slide them down in like u pulled them out, and then push forward a little forcefully, and they will *click* and lock in to place. enjoy

Open the printer door notice the color and the black and white cartridges and remember which one goes where. Write down the print cartridge numbers so you can replace them with the right ones or equivalent ones. Notice the instructions on the printer showing how to remove and to install the cartridges. now proceed with caution. Once youget the new cartridges be sure and remove the strip of tape on the cartridge bottom placed on the cartridges during packing and shipping. Your printer willnot work if you leave these strips on.

Open the door on the printer. YOu'll see both cartridges. Pull them towards you until they click, then pull them out. Replace with new:)

Lexmark X83 prints streakily or not at all

Have you used a new cartridge.

Do the test for running and cleaning new cartridge heads and the alignment procedure..

(Go to Start, settings, printers, right click on printer then click properties, cartridge maintenance.)

Other thing that might cause problem is build up of ink in right side of machine below printer cartridges.

You will have to strip down machine to get at this area.
Make a note of exactly what action you take when doing this so that you can bits back together.

I use cotton buds to get at the build up of ink or tissue wound round end of pointed object.
Go gently. When you have cleared what you can care reassemble bits and go through above procedure again. Check for any unusual noises that may denote part of mechanism has worn.

Color cartridge

Turn off and unplug your printer from the wall for a few minutes. Plug it back in and turn it on? If that doesn't work, remove the color ink and make sure the contacts on the cartridge are not smudged, reinsert the ink. If that didn't work re-install the old color cartridge and reboot the computer then try to change to the new color. Let me know what happens, Good Luck, Tim
