Laptop will not boot up

Hi my compaq n1015v will not boot up. screen lights up but nothing on it, and the fan seems to be on all the time. does not seem like i can turn it off. i also smelt a slight burning odour after which the problems began. os is xp and the laptop is approx. 2.5 yrs old. all help appreciated. cheers. Whenever any of my clients say the word "Burnt" & "Smell" in the same sentance with reference to their PC's I always shudder... This unit almost certainly has to go to the "Shop" for repair. When you do so ensure ya get a firm FREE "Quote" and an explanation B4 proceeding.

Compaq evo n1015v will not boot up when power is pressed

For this kind of issue, please follow up the following steps to check:

1.confirm the battery and ac adapter connect the laptop normally.Maybe the bad connect lead to this problem. If there are no lights when you turn on laptop, one of possible reason is that your adapter is malfunction.

My Compaq Evo N1015v won't boot unless fn+f11 are pressed on every start-up. When I turn on the laptop the Compaq screen shows with the message "to change system settings press f10". It does...

i would try a boot sector repair/ f-8 upon boot then repair

Hi, my old compaq presario 1500 wont boot up and no display but has power light and checks cd rom - no hdd indercator light, tryed plugging a monitor in and nothing???

remove battery ,remove power,plug hold power button for about ten seconds , plug power in press start seeif tht fixxes it

Remove the battery. Plug power cord in. Turn on machine. Does it boot? Replace battery.

You obviously have power, as lights and at least some text means power is connected ok, as you said. It may be a booting issue then. What OS is running on it when it did run???

you could try booting on battery instead of mains and see what happens, also could the screen be switched off ? If you have access to another monitor, you could try plugging it in to see if the video output is ok. ( some laptops have a facility to switch off the screen display for security etc )

Compaq Presario 1245 doesn't start up

Most laptops have a video connector that you can use to connect you laptop to an external monitor. connect an external monitor to your laptop and see if anythig comes up on the external monitor.Your laptop has a key to switch between it's own screen and the external monitor.When you use the external monitor ,you'll have to use this key to switch to the monitor.Your battery should'nt matter if the laptop is running on AC.Let me know what happens and we'll go from there.
