We are a Childrens Hospice with a 42inch Plasma screen that was donated to us when we opened 2years ago. In the last few months a 30mm. vertical line has appeared on the screen, this line has disappeared on a couple of occasions for about a day but seems now to be there all the time, this screen is the centre piece of our Hospice & is loved by all the children who stay with us.
I have just fixed this problem on my screen. The fault was a dry solder joint on the driver circuit of the screen. Have a look at my thread here. I have tried to explain it as well as possible.
Hope it helps.
Theres a better picture and howto here
look at reply post 11 , youll easily see the 4 parts to solder..Im gonna try again tomorrow now i know where they are

Try changing the input device to something you are sure works. Switch off TV manually, switch off power, remove plug and retry after 48 hours. If problem persists, please refer it to a qualified service technician.
All plasma TVs have boards that control vertical and horizontal output to their respective areas. They are connected to the screen by ribbon cables. If one of these boards fails all together, has a failed chip, a bad connection, or a bad ground somewhere it will result in a black line in the area of that board. A bad ribbon cable connection on the bottom will result in a vertical black bar though the screen. Many times resetting the connection will fix it, if the ribbon cable has been nicked there could be a severed connection. They an sometimes be fixed, but it is a pain. An yes I have done it, but the bar is gone. The same will happen if the chip that outputs to that area opens. The connectors are the first place to look paying close attention to the cable, they are extremely delicate so great care must be taken if you decide to tinker with em, the usually have lift locks that release them.
I hope this will help out in solving the problem ......
Hello Depending how wide the line is their could be two possible causes.
I have two questions for you.
1. How wide is the line.
2. Does it run from top of screen to bottom of screen?
If the line is thin a single strait line then it is possible the PDP has gone Bad (Panel). (Screen). The screen will to be replaced.
If the line is at least 2 or more inches wide then its a buffer board which can be replaced. LG calls this board Hand insert Boards or display driver boards..
your tv should still be under factory warrantey you should take back to place u you bought it may give you a nother one that works ok or help you get this resolved. Donot try to fix yourself or the warrantey will be no good.
The output freq of the vcr is sitting to close to an rf signal from a digi broadcast i guess, cross modulaion is the term.the rf can be moved away in freq to another bit of band width or if not using rf connection it can be switched off rf output altogether.find online vcr manual and find rf change section
