When the systems starts you will need to insert a windows disk into the cd drive then reboot and enter setup and set your computer to bootn from the windows xp disk (or whatever os you are using. Then you will need to load the recovery console by selecting repair. when the recovery cosole has loaded type chkdsk /r
this may repaire the the systems if not using the recovery console type fixmbr this has worked for me in the past. Some times this type of error is not a good sign for the hard drive it may be on its way out

This means that your hard drive has failed or has become disconnected and it cannot find the boot.ini to enable Windows to start.

this usually happens when the computer is trying to boot from a disk that isn't a valid boot disk.
if you have a floppy drive plugged into the multibay and a floppy in the drive, try removing the floppy. if there is no floppy involved, try to boot from your system recovery disks, as it's likely that the boot record on the hard drive will need repaired. your system recovery disks should walk you through the process.
This issue is related to a hard drive failure. Remove any disk (if any) from your floppy or cd drive and try again. Check in your bios if you can see your hard drive
If not your hard drive must be replaced
dear mitchiko
did you tried by changing the cables?if the problem still persists than it might be a problem with your motherboard.Contact your vendor then.
