Try using a USB keyboard. If that doesn't work, I'll have an indication of possible causes. I want to isolate the keyboard from possible motherboard problems.

Hi,
Try Swapping The Mouse for The Keyboard ?
you may have a faulty USB Port On The Computer/Laptop.
Also Which operating System Are You Using Windows 98/2000/ME/XP ?

Another possible Fix, is to wipe the USB Connectors/Contacts on the End of The USB Plugs. ( Computer And Keyboard ) use A Cotton Bud/Swab *****lightly****** soaked with lighter fluid/Petrol/methylated Spirits.

Hi,
If the problem is intermittent then the problem could just be foreign objects like crumbs and hair that's trapped under the keys.

Turn the laptop off and stand it on it's side with the lid open. Get a soft, dry paintbrush and brush the keys, gently tap the keyboard in various places with the back of the paintbrush to help dislodge anything that's trapped.

Once your satisfied all the keys are clear turn the laptop on and see if it has made any difference.

If it has not then you may need to replace the keyboard.

Good luck.

Laptop is not working

the only possable problem is the power source. so most likely your power converter box on the power cord has over heated, which is common, its expensive to replace though($70-85). if the problem continues take it to a shop don't try to repair the internal power converter yourself.

Some keys giving double letters cant enter password for windows

Good morning! possible that some of the keys (/letters) terminal point of your keyboard were locked/stucked-up during your cleaning. I suggest to use another keyboard then check the status of the keyboard if it is working properly thru Device Manager. best regards

Help please tell me why my keys will not work on my laptop.

Try using an external USB desktop keyboard (or a PS2 keyboard, if you have a PS2 jack on the laptop).

If everything works then, your laptop keyboard is malfunctioning. This is usually due to one of three causes:

1. One key is stuck in the "down" or "depressed" position (collapsed/dented silicone cup beneath, or damaged flex legs under key). Look at the keyboard from the side, to see f any key looks lower than the rest (or higher than the rest) Be careful taking it apart to clean and reassemble.

2. Bad ribbon connector, torn, or merely corroded/oxidized keyboard cable connector. This requires opening the laptop to fix. Usually 2-3 screws under laptop labeled as keyboard, allow it to be pried off. Release the cable LOCK, and remove the thin ribbon cable. Reinsert it 5-6 times to clean off contacts, and LOCK the jack again once you are sure it is all snug. If the ribbon was TORN, you will need a new one. Good luck, not easy to find on old laptops.

3. Worst scenario... someone spilled coke (the worst) or beer/beverage inside the keyboard. This eats up the printed oxide connectors, and this cannot be repaired. you will need a new keyboard assembly.. Use a magnifying glass to look between keys, to see if there is stickey, gooey material there. This would be the bad news indicator for number 3.
