Washer does not spin and drain water. (Kenmore Elite Heavy Duty)
It goes through the cycles but I often have to do a #2 rinse to have the machine spin and drain. I can hear the motor running but it does not spin and drain. At the end of that cycle, there's a burnt rubber smell.
It will drain sometimes.
My topload Kenmore Elite (Heavy Duty, Kingsize Capacity, Ultra Quiet Pack, 3 speed motor with 6 speed combination, Catalyst Cleaning Action, Ultra Rinse) bought in Jul 2002 - would stop after it's first washing cycle, with the "OL" sign blinking on the timer/clock window.
I tried to re-start it, and then it will do the same, stuck after 20 min. cycle.
The problem is, for now, I could not even drain the water-off!
I tried to agitate, pull/turn the ertical spinner, there is no water draining out.
Is there anything, any parts or button that I could push?
I had the same problem with My Kenmore Elite Heavy Duty Quiet Pack II. After paying a "repair" man about four times, we changed to another guy who replaced the clutch. Spins fine now. My problem now is during the wash cycle, the agitator isn't turning.I had the same problem with My Kenmore Elite Heavy Duty Quiet Pack II. If the water drains between the wash and rinse cycles, your motor and pump are probably OK. If this is a machine with a dial, try a different cycle, like normal instead of heavy duty. If that works and the machine completes the entire cycle then the timer probably has a bad spot. You might try to find a replacement timer if that is the case although I didn't have any luck with my 10 year old washing machine. Best of luck
This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.
First, see the Sears parts site for your washer: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action
Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.
If it goes through the agitate cycle, the motor and transmission are probably OK.
If it goes through the initial drain / spin cycles after the first agitate cycle, the Lid Switch is also OK.
The humming could likely be the timer motor. Try to manually move the timer to the rinse cycle. If the washer responds, the problem points to the timer itself.
See the sub component section on the Sears site for the Console.
The "Alt" part numbers are Whirlpool parts that can likely be purchased from a variety of on line or local parts stores.
