Water remains in the bottom of the dishwasher after a wash cycle. We just put in a new disposal - works great! Hose is connected inthe correct place and seems to be free of gunk.

Check the following.
1. The drain hose has to be discharging at a high enough point to prevent water flowing back into the machine.
2. Make sure your drain hose is not twisted or kinked.
3 . Make sure your drain line is not blocked push a flexible hose down it to dislodge any fat/debris
4.If your drain line discharges into a shared drain with another appliance i.e. garbage disposal make sure it is not blocked.
5. You may have a blockage at the inlet to the pump which would slow down the pumping rate,
Since you mentioned the mushroom shaped float allowing the washer to empty this may be defective.

Bosch Dishwasher Does Not Drain

It drains as part of a cycle as does the wash and rinse cycles.
Most will drain through a hose into a garbage disposal connection. First I would check the grate inside the bottom of the dishwasher for debris them in the disposal. That issue will slow down the water from draining and timing out the cycle leaving water inside. The water when draining from the dishwasher into the disposal should be seen from above flowing out rather fast if correct. If not? The hose from dishwasher to disposal also might be clogged. This is fairly typical issue for dishwashers, when the dishes are not Cleaned beforehand.

Belt, Water Pump Although few dishwashers have a water pump belt, if the dishwasher won't drain there might be a worn or broken water pump belt. After removing the lower kick panel the motor can be seen in the front, the water pump belt is on the bottom of the motor.

Drain Pump If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain pump might be defective. Test the pump motor with an Ohm meter. Drain pumps are not repairable, if it's defective it will need to be replaced.

Drain Impeller The drain impeller is attached to the pump and pushes the water out of the dishwasher, through the drain tube and into the garbage disposer or drain line. If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain impeller might be broken or worn out. Replace both the impeller and seal at the same time.

Drain Solenoid Kit If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain solenoid kit might need to be replaced. The drain solenoid is an actuator that opens a flap to allow the water to drain.
Drain Valve The drain valve can get clogged with debris and should be cleaned out if the dishwasher won't drain. If it seems clear of debris but won't actuate, it will need to be replaced. The drain valve is not repairable.
Pump and Motor Assembly If the dishwasher won't drain, the pump and motor assembly might be defective. If the motor runs during the drain cycle, check for a blockage in the drain line. If the motor won't run during the drain cycle or if it just hums when it should be running, the pump and motor assembly might need to be replaced.

Clogged or Improperly Installed Garbage Disposer If the dishwasher won't drain and the garbage disposer was installed recently, the installer might have forgotten to knock out the drain plug from this disposer. All garbage disposers are sold with a solid plug in the drain tube for situations where a dishwasher isn't connected. However, if the dishwasher is connected, the plug will need to be removed. If the disposer wasn't replaced recently, remove the dishwasher drain hose from the disposer and clean out both the fitting on the disposer and the end of the drain hose. These are the most common places to find an obstruction if the dishwasher won't drain.

Drain Hose If the dishwasher won't drain the drain hose might be clogged. Remove the drain hose from both the dishwasher and the sink drain to clean it out. The most common place for an obstruction is at the garbage disposer.

Check Valve If the dishwasher won't drain the check valve might be stuck closed. The check valve is a small plastic device which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the valve gets stuck closed, it will prevent the water from draining. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher
Check Ball If the dishwasher won't drain the check ball might be stuck. The check ball is a small plastic ball in the check valve which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the ball gets stuck, it will prevent the water from draining also. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher.

Check to make sure you removed the plug inside the garbage disposal inlet where the dishwasher drain hose connects. This is a common mistake installers make when installing a new garbage disposal. Make sure the power the the disposal is secured and remove the drain hose. Place your finger inside the inlet on the side of the disposal. The opening should be clear. If not, you simply need to insert a flat blade scewdriver through the inlet connection and tap out the plug with a hammer. The plug will pop out inside the disposal, so you will need to reach inside and retrieve it before attempting to use it. Once the plug is removed, reinstall the drain line and test operate your dishwasher by starting a cycle. Once the dishwasher fills and begins the wash cycle, press the STOP/CANCEL button to initiate a drain cycle. Your dishwasher should drain with no problems. Some of the most common reasons include that the drain hose isn’t working properly, the drain pump isn’t working correctly, or possibly there is a plumbing problem in your home’s drain lines.


First check whether the drain is not clogged or blocked and the line is not kinked. Check all the hoses for blockages & also clean the air gap. Has the disposer been replaced recently? If so, chances are the knockout is still in place. Simply remove the drain hose from the disposer, and knock out the plug. If the disposer has not been replaced, try removing the drain hose from the disposer and use a wet-dry vacuum (prepared for water, of course) to **** any water (and hopefully anything else) from the drain line. You need to elevate your dishwasher drain hose under the sink. The water going down your disposal side is running down the hose into the dishwasher.

You don't list the make and model of the dishwasher, but generally,when an older dishwasher is not fully draining and the remaining water is not clean, the wash pump motor is failing.

But first check the drain hose from the base of the dishwasher clear to the drain. Make sure the hose is not obstructed. If that hose connects to a disposal, check closely the drain pipe on the disposal.

If the drain line is connected to a disposer, check to make sure the plug has been removed from the disposer. (typically, the plastic plug inside the tube where the drain hose connects onto disposer needs to be knocked out) If this OK, look for a kinked drain hose.
