I am using 1-3/4" Passlode finish nails. I unjam the mechanism, reload and it and it jams again after shooting only 1 nail. This repeats itsel over and over. Once in a while I get 2 nails before it jams again.
Per your addendum I would have first told you to check that you are using the proper guage nails. Second you should make sure you are loading the nails in the lowest channel in the magazine so they are at the bottom of the magazine. If you load them into the top of the magazine they have more time to go off course before they get into the wood.

It sound to me that the 1 5/8 brads are not 18 guage but probably 16 guage and they will not work. Double check them first before going any further. You can usually lay them next to the smaller ones that work and see the size difference, if not let me know and I will dig deeper.

Try some 3 in 1 oil on the tip, but that probably won't work. It sounds like your windings are being being power hogs and you might need different brushes.

ADDENDUM: Two nightsafter posting the first part of this problem, I did some more crown molding work and decided to try the 2" brad nails rather than the 1-3/4". These nails worked superbly! So, there is nothing wrong with the nailer, it has to be flawed 1.75" brads. maybe they are mistakenly identified as 18 gauge when they are actually 16........... Anyways, I am taking the box of nails back for a refund. I sure happy that the nailer is not the issue!
