Mine did the same thing.
Just now literally.
What I did to fix it was I put hold on and tried turning it on. It brought me to the black screen tellin you to turn off hold after the mp3 player turns itself off. Afterwards, it turned on just like normal.

I had a totally dead e260 and after looking around for a bit, I found this solution. Place the device into hold (orange showing) and hold the menu and mic buttons.
This started recovery mode. To get out of recovery mode, I had to attach the device to my computer. After getting my e260 up and running, I updated the firmware and haven't had a problem since.

Wow, i dunno wtf I just did... I came onto this page because my sansa e280 wouldn't turn on, even if it was charging it wouldn't start. Someone said to hold the power button for 15-20 secs, so I held it for 20 secs. nothing. I then held it for about a minute (all of this was with my sansa plugged into my computer). still nothing happened, so I turned the hold on(I had already tried this once before).. but this time it turned on... so... I guess just play around with it for a bit and it will work again.. xD

Hold on the menu/power icon for 15-20 seconds, it doesn't matter if the hold icon is on, this will reset your sandisk e200. if this doesn't work, then you might want to take it back to the store you bought it from.
