Hi,
I have a problem with me GPS.
Whenever I put the SD card in the unit will not locked to any satellites. The pointer will wonder and it looks like is getting a good lock but the pointer changes from the arrow to the hourglass. It also shows that you are moving even if you are standing still. I don't get this behavior with the SD card out of the unit. Any ideas?

Make sure that the pins that connect to the SD card aren't shorting anything out. Take the SD card out and make sure all the pins are even and not smashed down into the circuit board. It could be software though, do you have the 5.2.03 software version to reload? If so let me know if you need help with that process.

You can download the US basemap for the 500 at http://www.megaupload.com/it/?d=EJTNQH03 Rename it BASEMAP.MGI Then copy it in the directory "background maps" in the SD card of your 500, by using a SD card reader/writer. Insert
the SD card in your 500 and connect it to your PC; then turn it on;it
will turn on regularly, because the basemap in the card will be
detected; turn it to USB file transfer mode, and copy the basemap from
the SD card to the directory "background maps" of the 500. If you already have the file ..just rename it like I said ..and copy it ..using the sd card in the reader...Than if it is not functional ..just reset it ..and reload the file the proper way by reloading maps..
Ciao

To speed things up a bit with frozen Explorists, you can undo the battery cover and pull out the battery then replace and start again. I have had to do this many times.

I had this problem also with my 500. I worked around it by putting numbers only in the first column and naming in the next column I think. I do not have the program in front of me but work with that. I will double check later if you still have prob.
Make sure all the contacts that the SD card touches are even in the back. Sometimes the contacts will be bent out of shape and end up grounding themselves. So, get you a pair of tweezers.. and look closely. dont' be afraid to bend them back.. they shouldn't break off. Good Luck.
