DVD's or Unit?

Certain dvds play perfectly yet others just break up and stall!I keep getting contradicting opinions as to the cause. The local Kenwood/Alpine dealer says the laser is out of adjustment or its not stong enough. The store where I bought the unit says the quality of the dvd's are poor. What can I do/try to get my unit to work?FYI only 2 out of 12 BRAND NEW dvds will work. Thanks

There are techs out there that are so good that they can actually adjust the setting on the the laser assembly itself. I used to do it to compact disc players all the time it was just a variable resistor on the laser assembly. Dvd players general have two one for CDs and one for DVDs. What this does is it allow the lens to focus slighly better. But most techs will not adjust them anymore due to the fact that if you have to adjust this from the factory preset. that means the laser is starting to fail. and will eventually need to be replaced anyway.

Are the certain DVD's original store bought or burnt? Also, did you try a lens cleaner?

What would cause a panasonic cp 67 dvd/cd player to play only cds. How do I adjust the reader?

It is most likely a permanent fault as CDs and DVDs require the laser to focus differently. If the unit is a few years old it will not be viable for economic repair.

My JVC HR-XVC27U plays some DVDs but not others. They have the correct codes, but it seems to not play the newer DVDs like Toy Story 3

see the causes and remedies and fix it: God bless you
  1. No disc. - Load a disc into the tray.
  2. Disc has been loaded upside down. Place the disc with the label side up.
  3. Disc region code does not match region code of the player.
  4. Disc type is not the correct type to play.
  5. Disc is damaged or dirty. Clean the disc or try another.
  6. Moisture may be condensed inside the unit. Remove the disc and the leave the power on for one or two hours.

Unit will only read certain dvds

you can try cleaning player by opening up unit and very gently try cleaning 'eye' on player with a Qtip and rubbing alcohol

some players have issues playing some DVD formats though so if this unit never played certain DVDs that is issue that cant be fixed

good luck!!

Cannot play certain dvd discs the make is panasonic model num nv vp33

Panasonic NV-VP33 is a DVD/VCR combo unit. These are good, but limited in DVD media playback formats. It depends on the types of DVDs you are trying to play, and their region codes (if they apply).

This model will NOT play:

DVD-ROM / DVD audio / DVD+R (unfinalised) / DVD-RW / Blu-Ray (obviously).

This model WILL play:

DVD-R (finalised) / DVD-RAM (no finalising required) shop-bought DVD movies / CD-R (for JPEG/MP3/DivX) / DVD-R DL (finalised) / DVD+RW (titled or with a top menu to make them compatible with other players, but again, finalising not required).

You didn't specify which DVDs do not play in your unit.

I would be very concerned if your player didn't read ANY DVDs at all. I assume the image below is what the model looks like. I have never had any problems with mine.

My Audiovox D1788 says "no

Hello
Your Audiovox's Laser Picup Unit is in trouble. In payers, that can play both CDs and DVDs, there are different laser Beams from the same Laser Picup Unit, one have with a wavelength slightly differ to the other. When we insert a CD or DVD disc in to the player, at first the control system inside the players' circuit board will detect it, whether it is a CD, MP3 or 'DVD, by variying the wavelengths of the laser beam, and confirm it to be a CD, MP3 or DVD. Only after this detecting process, it will read its lead-in track and start to play.
In your CD player, now there is only beam that has the wavelength to play DVDs. Others are not working. That is why, it plays only DVDs and not others.
But before replacing the Laser Pick up Unit, you just replace its strip wire. Strip wire is one which connects the Laser Pickup Unit ot the mainboard. It has carbon conductors, instead of metal conductors. There is a chance to get a break in these conductors, even one of them break, will cause a problem,. As it has to move along with the laser pickup unit, when tracks the CD, the chance for a break is there. Just replace it first and see will it help you. It has clips on both ends, and after releasing the clip, it can be replaced easly. If this does not help, replace the Laser Pickup Unit, with same type and number. Insist on same type and number, as it is a critical component in your system. OK.

Code to unregional set my dvd player

go to http://ifndef.altervista.org/index_eng.html
a lot of helpful stuff about this unit
including instructions on making your recorder region free
if you do not understand the stuff on that site i strongly reccomend leaving it alone (easy to break, hard to fix)

'PLAYBACK PROHIBITED DUE TO AREA LIMITATIONS'

Check area code at your unit and usualy its printed at back side. If your unit belongs to code 1, it will play only region code 1 dvds and so on other codes.

I have a Samsung 1080P 7 DVD player and Samsung LN-T4071F television. I have them connected via an HDMI cable. Nearly all, if not all DVD movies I play get to a certain point and the picture starts...

If you have changed the DVDs and the problem is still there, then the problem can only be the DVD player.
The symptoms you describe cannot be caused by the TV or the connection.
