Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven
First I would wonder if you really need to remove it from the wall? Many repairs can be done with it still in the wall. If so, installation instructions should be with the paperwork that came with the oven, and that will show you how to remove it. Buit if you don't have that, you would likely remove the grille from across the top. The grille is usually held in place with screws and/or clips. After that is out, there may be a couple of other screws now revealed at the top edge, or there may be a one or more "catches" just under the top edge of the the chassis. I would strongly advise you to have a helper working with you. These can be heavy, and awkward. You might call the GE Answer Center and ask if they can supply you with installation instructions. They're at 800-626-2005 (24 hrs.) Otherwise, you may be able to find instructions that are close enough at a place like Lowe's. They may have some demo models and you can usually ask to look at the manuals.

Be careful when removing this product. If you take the screws out and it still doesn't budge, then it probably has liquid nail or something similar on the top of it. IT WILL TURN LOOSE ON IT'S ON, WHILE YOUR NOT HOME!!!!!! Put the screws back in the top! We took the screws out and couldn't figure out what the problem was....... Went to bed then to work the next day. While we were at work, it turned loose and fell hitting the stove knob and turned one of the eyes on. It caught on fire and long story short................. Now we have a newly renovated home. It cost 28,000.00 to fix the damage!!!!
We bought the same kind of microwave the second time because we thought it was just a one time problem....... this one quit heating also. The repair cost more than a new microwave. That is why we were trying to replace it the first time. We WILL NOT buy another GE!!!
