Image colors are split

All images and words are split by colors. Colors not converging. Performed alignment procedure and does not work to bring colors together. This problem originally started out as a sparatic problem and over a short period of time (few days) became a permanent problem. Would appreciate advice, and if it's a component board failure based on you expertice, then what is it and where can I get it please. I can perform the tasks. Would also like to note: I purchased this unit when stationed at the Misawa Air Base, Base Exchange in Japan in 2001. Returning to place of purchase is not possible. Nearest JVC Authorized Dealer is 40 miles away and they won't come to residence to fix because of distance. They did tell me they think they know what the problem is (I sent them a a digital picture of image) but wouldn't tell or sell me the part to fix. At 260 lbs and mere size that's just not possible. Thank you all very much in advance. Jeff

Thanks, This sure is a great wed site. fixya.

Where is the convergence board in the unit or how is it identified in the tv? Will the STK IC's be marked as such?

Is there more than one type of STK IC. Are they something I can by at radio shack and what your best guess on price?

    Thanks again!

The board is going to cost you twice what it would take to replace the two convergence IC's on the board will cost. They are the STK type IC's. Just make sure when your replacing them, you use plenty of heat sink compound on the back of the new IC's before you reinstall the new IC's.

Replace the convergence board. Order it from a JVC dealer.

I have a toshiba tp50h50 rear projection tv and their is a blue shadow behind the words and makes the words a little blurry

Sounds like you need to do a color convergence. If you still have the owner's manual, it will give great detail on how to do this. The convergence menu is accessed from the video menu on the tv.
The tv has three color picture tubes, red, blue and green. The convergence alignment adjust each tube so that color from each tube overlaps each over to create a white image on the screen. Most tv's only allow you to adjust the blue and red colors.
Convergence should be performed each time the tv is moved and at least once annually.

Our tv just started having a fuzzy image and the auto focus function aborts during the red color alignment. is there a manual alignment I can do to fix it.

What does this fuzzy image look like? Does it have ghosting shadows. Of course it is possible to align red manually from the convergence menu. But first lets confirm that it is indeed a convergence related problem.

Converging problem

This is a rear projection TV that uses three color "guns" in a cathode ray tube . They are no longer converging at the screen. The convergence problem is usually a sign of something else gone wrong with the high voltage.
Do NOT attempt to open this set yourself. This type of TV can have LETHAL voltages inside for WEEKS after it is unplugged. The repair and convergence calibration will require a qualified service technician.

My colors are splitting inthe picture. How do I fix?

I think you have a convergence issue. Are the colors not properly aligned - do you see multiple overlays of the same image in different colors?

If so all you need is to adjust the convergence - it should be adjustable in the user manual or by pushing the "Magic Focus" button if you have one.

Samsung HCN4727W Rear Projection TV, green screen, audio works

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai2_bing.gif,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.
