Thanks first of all..but is there anyway to access or to remove it without entering the password? I know i didn't set any BIOS password. Should there be another way or even format it?

Thx alot tomj23 for your time. I've spent much time lately trying to find any possibilities. I've tried the masterpassword thingy, the key-disk password reset etc. All couldn't work. My Bios is by Phoenix tech, if it could help abit. Thx again.

hello i seem to have the same problem but my friends laptop is a compaq presario M2000 laptop, and yes bought at pawn shop with no problems until 2 days ago. It turns on and a black screen appears and a blue box to type a password, 3 tries and it says system is disabled 00020. i asked my friend if she had added any type of passwords and she said no. I now have the laptop and it makes a wierd noise and i cannot find anything to fix this, tried esc, f10, taking the battery out, etc. Is this a virus? I just added antivirus and firewalled it last week when she got it,,,so fustrated if you can help thanks in advance..email me [email protected]

Hello nic208, The problem is you have a BIOS level password installed. Laptop owners and computer departments sometimes install them in case the laptop is lost or stolen to prevent unauthorized users from gaining access.

You can't boot the computer without the password so you don't have the ability to format the hard drive.

I actually spent a lot of time last night researching this but haven't come up with an answer yet. I've got some work to do but i'll do some more looking later tonight.
