SOMETIMES THE WIRING HARNESS GET DAMAGED WHEN FAN REMOVED. GM HAS BULLETIN TO REPLACE COOLING FAN WIRING HARNESS PART# 89024920
Harness Assembly, Engine Cooling Fan Wiring

  1. Place the cooling fan assembly on a bench.
  2. Disconnect the harness electrical connector from the cooling fan clutch.
  3. Remove the harness from the plastic guide while feeding the wires out of the slot.
  4. Before installing the new harness, wrap the affected area on the wires with electrical tape to keep the protective sleeve in place. Be sure to keep the tape approximately 25 mm (1 in) away from the connector so the wires can be fed into the slot.
  5. Feed the wires into the slot and install the harness to the plastic guide.
  6. Connect the harness electrical connector to the cooling fan clutch.
  7. Install the cooling fan. Refer to the Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement procedure in the Engine Cooling sub-section of SI.

Same thing just happened to me but it wasn't wiring . The fan shroud has to align at the bottom so the plastic guide pins fit in the holes so the fan does not rub on the shroud . The rubbing cause the fan to stick setting off that code . Make sure shroud is lined up at the bottom .

I have a 05 f 150 is getting hot replace thermostat and fan clutch is still over heathing but i can stop the fan with my hands do i need a water pump

Hi. Do you own a infrared thermometer? This is a great tool to have when diagnosing heating issues and testing ECT sensor accuracy. Just because a part is new doesn't mean it can not be defective. So you don't chase your tail I recommend testing. The fan clutch will free spin if the clutch is defective or the thermo coil does not sense enough heat from the radiator. I think your truck has a circulation problem. There are multiple reasons for this issue. For example: defective ECT sensor, low coolant, leak, defective radiator cap, compression in coolant system, clog or restriction inside engine or radiator from human error (shop rag left inside from recent repair), a collapsed hose or failed rusty coolant, defective water pump or thermostat, improperly installed thermostat, or defective fan clutch. Please write back if there is anything else. Good Luck.

My 2001 PT Cruiser stalled and then died on the way home today. We just recently had the time belt assembly and water pump replaced.

Ch. Best not to jump to conclusions, if the engine light is on, there is a trouble code which will probably tell why the vehicle stalled. Take vehicle into a good shop, have scanned for trouble codes, diagnosed and estimate for repair.

I have a 2000 Chevy venture and recently about 6 months ago had the transmission overhauled and now I have code p0742 showing up. Could it be replacing the water pump and fuel pump be causing the code...

Hello: P0742 MEANS THE TORQUE converter clutch is stuck on. The repairs on the water pump and fuel pump should not have caused this. The P0742 could be caused by electrical connection going into the transmission, a dirty/failed torque converter solenoid, debris in the transmission. Recommend you get code cleared at Auto Zone, O'Riely, Advance Auto (they probably won't charge you) and see if code comes back, it may only be a one time incident. If it comes back then it will need to be repaired. How long is the warranty on the trans overhaul, time? miles?

Code 1481 and1271

your code P1481 is for the cooling fan speed the problem is often the wires and connector that go to that unit ... removing and replugging the connector sometimes fixes it ... also check the fan clutch and fan (not as often the trouble) .. there is a techniical bulliten out for this trouble .. (tsb050605012) .. sometimes the wire harness is replaced for the fan ...

your trouble code p1271 is associated with the accelerator pedal position sensor (APP) (right above the gas pedal) .. again check the wiring and connector going to the APP .. if the APP turns out to be bad then its not hard to change and requires no computer changes ... when you get an APP alarm then your car may go into a "reduced speed mode" ...
here is a list of the service bullitins on your trailblazer....

2003 chevy trailblazer....idlind at 600-750 rpms, when i engage the a/c it drops to 500rpms then stalls. also have two codes, p1481 and p1482. whats wrong?

The coolant fan clutch or the electric connections to the fan clutch is code1482.

Code 1481 is associated with the coolant fan problem but concerns the PCM having an error.

This error is why your car is stalling. The fan clutch is variable. When it is fully engaged the fan has more resistance and pulls down the rpm. The PCM is suppose to respond to this and raise the rpm for a steady idle. It is not doing it and needs a software upgrade.

The Chevy dealer may have a service note on this problem. The upgrade may be free.
