Change the needle
rethread the machine top & bobbin
clean under needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or threads
if these solutions don't help then it's possible that the machine is out of time & needs to be serviced

I have thread jammed in the bobin and the needle will not go up or down. What can I do?

Use a needle and tweezers to remove the jammed thread. If the jam is severe, you'll need to remove the bobbin and try to access the jamming thread. Is you can't get it that way you'll have to remove the very small screws and disassemble the bobbin carriage. Put a magnet close to the screws youa re removing because it is so, so easy to lose them.
Good Luck!

I've just bought a Singer Serenade 2250 but the instruction manual is all in Spanish. Don't really want to pay £13 for an English one, is there anywhere I can download a free one?

you can find it on the singer website, just type the model number and download for free: http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html

Needle jams and breaks off

Needle jams....Thread is caught in the hook...solution...Remove the upper thread and bobbin case, turn the handwheel backwards and forwards by hand and remove the thread remands.

Needles breaks
1. Needles is damaged..Insert new needle
2. The needle is not correctly inserted....insert flat side towards the back
3. Wrong needle size for the fabric...Choose a needle to suit the thread and fabric.

Machine jammed my lock 644D

Undo the needle/s at the holder screw in needle arm and gently manouver any fabric out of the way ... enough to access the screw holding the needleplate on.....very gently try to loosen & remove the needle, needleplate and fabric in one bunch.........cut threads a few inches from the jam and try to ease the whole jam away from the needles and looper, you can then sort that mess out later........

During all these processes, Do Not pull or force anything as you may bend something or throw the timing out (if it is not already out)

Once all is clear, replace only the R needle at this stage and very slowly rotate the handwheel towards you and watch the motion carefully to ensure that there are no drastic collisions of loopers and needle.

If all appears well, re-thread and do a sample test.

If things are not so rosy, you may contact me via the "contact us" page at www.bargainbox.com.au and I shall see what can be done for you to reset the timing and clearances.......if you feel up to the challenge.
