I have a brand new Sony DVDirect VRD-MC3. We have been using it with no problems until last night. We inserted a new DVD+R, connected our MiniDV Camcorder to the machine and chose "record", as always. It rewound the tape and started playing it like normal - but at the end instead of asking to finalize the disc - it said "failed to record". We thought it might be a bad DVD, so we trashed that one and tried again and received the same error. I don't know if the problem is with the DVDirect, the video or the camcorder...any suggestions?

Try checking the right audio cable because the music comes through on the right and the narration comes out on the left. Try unplugging and replugging the red audio cable. If that dosent not work try another cable.
PS: If I have helped you please say "yes" to the question bellow
Yes...First chose the appropriate Record Quality based on the total length of all 3 videos you want to transfer. Next using a RCA component cable, connect the Yellow, Red and White from the Hi-8 camcorder to the DVDirect RCA inputs. After each tape has finished, just press the red record button...Press it again when the next tape your want to record begins. When all are done prrss the stop button (small button above the record button) and finalize as normal.
This is not a solution to your problem; but i can assure you that chapters do burn on my Sony Multi-Function DVD Recorder VRD-MC5. And, on viewing via a DVD player, work well. [email protected]
There is a firmware update posted on the Sony support web site. It takes care of the copy protect error. However, i have encountered an error where the recorder doesn't identify the input signal. It posts the message "waiting for input signal." I have no solution for this one yet.
