Question about GE JTP20 Electric Single Oven
New to me home and I did not understand how replace light inside of oven. Assumed I needed to unscrew the screws to remove bulb (only needed to unscrew the glass). After unscrewing the screws a bright flash happened and I noticed some char on the back of the light fixture as well as connection for a missing wire (that I assume burnt up in the short). When I look up into the area where the fixture belongs I see what looks like insulation but cannot see another end of a wire. Do I need a professional to take my oven apart to replace this wire, or is this a possible DIY project? Thanks
First, no First, no First unplug the range after you gently scoot away from wall. Then check youy main circut breaker for house to see if you tripped fuse. Then with stove still unplugged remove back access panel, look to area where light goes into oven. Check again and make sure oven is unplugged, then repair the wire by splicing wire with new wire line splice purchased at your nearest local auto parts store, sales person can show how to install. THEN plug in to see if you can see the light!

Yes you will need to slide it out. Wiring for light is at the top of the oven. Please make sure the correct circuit breaker is turned off and make sure you have something nearby to set oven on to get to the light. You will find the oven is "hard wired" (wired direct to home lighting) to main electrical. Then follow same proceedure as I reccomended earlier.

SOURCE: GE JTP48 console wouldn't display after spark
if the console is not displaying then most likely due to the spark you have shorted the LED inside the electronic control and would have to replace the electronic control on the unit and there are 27 units with that model number. If you have the full model number I can provide schematics of the unit and the part that you would have to replace. If you have any further questions message me back I await your reply Thanks Rick

Hello would need the entire model number as you can see by this link there are 32 models of that oven http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/JT952?searchModPar=JT952&pathTaken=modelSearch&prst=0&shdMod=JT952
you can either message me back and I will then pick which is your unit then you would go under door schematic and it would bring up the diagram for your unit which when you clicked on door it would being you to this blown up view of the door this is an example http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/GE-Parts/Wall-oven-Parts/Model-JT952BF7BB/0432/0125300/G0510389/00005?blt=06&prst=&shdMod= and if you scrolled down to like on this schematic has the outer door glass shown as number 140 in the diagram and then underneath that it would give the part number such as it does for this one being
PART NUMBER: WB57T10259 if you have any further questions or would like me to look your model up further please message me back with the complete model number Thanks Rick

Thanks for the quick response , however this is not a free standing range (it is a built in). Do I need to pull it all the way out to get the back panel? The light on this model is on the top of the oven by the way.
