Singer 507 sewing machine - material wont feed through

I filled up bobbin, turned knobs back to normal, clicked bobbin clamp back to unclamped (and tried it clamped), but now material won't feed through - I have to force it through. I got to get my dress finished by tomorrow!! SCREAM!!!

  • Anonymous May 29, 2012

It did this once before - years ago. Somehow I managed to fix it, but I don't remember what I did. But i will look into the feed dogs teeth. Lol!

Yeah... but I can't work out what's gone wrong this time. Uaually it something stoopid like dust or dial from filling bobbin not put back. But this time...'stumped'

If the fabric won't feed thru then there is something wrong with the feed dogs

  • have you checked the presser foot to make sure it's holding the fabric to the feed dogs correctly?

SOURCE: bobbin filling on Singer 626

The Singer 626 has a self-winding bobbin. You place the empty bobbin in the bobbin thingie (sorry for being so untechnical). On the left of the bobbin you will see a "lever" with a circular top on it (I think it is red-ish) Again, sorry for being so untechnical. Press the "lever" down. Thread your machine, thread the needle, wrap the excess thread from the needle around the knob that tightens the needle and holds it in place and press your foot down on the foot pedal. The bobbin will automatically wind as you hold the foot pedal down. Do not wind the thread onto the bobbin past the outer white line.

While removing the bobbin from my Singer 507 the bobbin casing came out as well. Following the instructions in the manual I tried to put it back but to no avail.

Take a look at pg 39/40 of the manual:

Singer 507

If that doesn't help, you can probably take it to a sewing repair shop and they can probably pop it back in for you.

Hi there. I have a singer 507 machine which was sewing fine until I changed thread in bobbin and now the feeder teeth are not moving to feed thE fabric thru, not sure what I may have done - Help!

the bobbin has nothing to do with the feed teeth
however it is possible that at some point you moved the forward /reverse knob lever to middle where the teeth will not move

My singer simple; the wheel is difficult to turn, the needle wont go up and down, the material wont feed

Sounds like you have a thread jam( bird's nest) inside your bobbin housing. Take the face plate off, remove the bobbin, and take the housing apart if you have to...then start all over with winding new thread on the bobbin and re threading the machine before you try sewing. Hope this helps!

Hi, have tried to use buttonhole feature on singer 4423. Dog feed teeth have dropped - won't come back up and the material isn't feeding though. Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Reverse feed dogs on Singer 4423 Remove extension table so you can see switch on BACK of machine @ left side. Flip switch to raise feed dogs up. If machine actually sewing in reverse - check n Buttonhole adjustment. Reset it (located bottom right side machine) Jimmy

How do you adjust the bobbin

Hello

Set the tension on the sewing machine for the weight of the material you want to sew. The tension setting shows in the stitch on the material. Use the chart on the machine that matches types of stitches with suggested material tensions. An example of this is, the stitch to sew jean material is different than the stitch to sew silk.

Take the bobbin and wind the thread around it. Make sure the bobbin is empty and don't fill it too full of thread. A bobbin filled too full won't stay tightly spun.

Thread the string evenly on the bobbin. Move the thread back and forth evenly and in layers that are level. Many Singer sewing machines have a bobbin winder on the top of the sewing machine, and the consistency of how it threads can save you frustration later.

Find the hole on the bobbin that is located near the inside spindle of the bobbin. Take the thread sitting on the sewing machines spool and insert the thread in the hole from inside the bobbin to the outside. Set the threaded bobbin on the spool designated for spinning on the top of the sewing machine for some Singers.

Turn the side drive wheel slowly until the threaded bobbin has a layer or two of thread on it. Push down on the drive peddle and fill the bobbin, but don't thread it to the very edge. If the bobbin is too full the thread will release erratically. Cut the thread from the spool.

Drop the bobbin into the bobbin case under the area where the needle sews the material. Close the case and turn by hand the side wheel drive until the bobbin threads into the sewing machine. You can tell when the bobbin is threaded by the tiny piece of thread that juts out of the bobbin case where the needle goes up and down.

Grab the thread with your fingers and pull it out approximately 4 inches. Your bobbin is now spun and threaded.

Bobbin area will not work

There should be a spinning cover with a hook that fits over the bobbin. Normally, you just pull the bobbin thread out through the swinging/sliding plate hole. Turn the machine by hand toward you (at the top) until the needle dives into and comes back with both threads. Separate the threads and assuming that the thread tension above the needle is set correctly, feed a piece of material in to see if it sews correctly. The tension is set so that the thread is even on both sides of the material. Let the machine pull the material through at it's own pace, your function is to guide the material.
