Although the wireless switch on your Acer does turn on/off your wireless card, you will also need to make sure that your operating system (Windows) has the wireless card enabled.

Do the following:

  1. Go to Control Panel (Start -> Control Panel)
  2. Double-click Network Connections
  3. Right-click on Wireless Network Connection / WLAN (you can tell it is disabled if the icon is greyed)
    wireless switch - 3dce7ab.jpg
  4. Click on "Enable" (if you see Disable, your network is already enabled)
You should check the bottom-right-hand area of your screen (in the menu bar) for your wireless icon. If this is not appearing, you'll have to go into Network Connections again and do the following:
  1. Right-click on Wireless Network Connection (your wireless network adapter)
  2. Select Properties
  3. Click the checkbox that says "Show icon in notification area when connected"

  4. Now click on the Wireless Networks tab (at the top of this dialogue box)
  5. Scan for a network and connect to it.

I may need some more information. It sounds like your wireless drivers are not installed. You can download your wireless driver from acer. I've also provided a direct link.

Download the driver and unzip. Run the setup file that will appear once unzipped and follow the prompts.

If you have your wireless driver installed, then you are probably asking how to connect to a wireless network. Home Network Help has instructions on this.

Sorry, I was unaware you were on Vista -- I assumed XP.

Please download the Vista drivers from the site. Do not use XP drivers because they may be rejected or cause problems.

It appears Acer has stopped properly supporting your laptop. This means they probably won't be releasing an official Vista driver for your laptop.

What you have to do is go to the wireless card manufacturer's website. The wireless card chip is the BCM4318 by Broadcom. Often, you can find the Vista driver released for another system by Acer (such as the 3100). You could try this link for the Vista driver.

Give the XP driver a shot if you haven't yet.

I found some drivers that are compatible for Vista 32/64-bit through a community website. They've gone through quite a bit of testing. Hopefully they will work for you.

You'll want the BCM 43xx drivers.

Glad to hear you got it going. I know how painful it can be to not have wireless drivers. Happy surfing!

My Acer Extensa 5220 just blinks the power green light when switched on and goes off immediately.? Can anybody assist?

Try reseating memory modules.

Try taking out all parts like Hard drive, memory, wireless card. Does it do anything? IF it beeps, then put the memeory back in and try again.

Reseat all of them. Then try. Then if you have two memory sticks try one at a time in different slots. If nothing changes.. probably a bad motherboard or processor. (motherboard is more likely)

Wireless switch

Hi,

try downloading the latest driver for the device, from the manufacturers website.
There are different wireless modem cards, in different laptops.
Try This:- go to MyComputer/Control Panel/System/Device manager. if you have any yellow exclamation marks by any of the devices, then they are not functioning correctly. either re-install the driver. Or uninstall reboot the computer, when the hardware wizard detects the device, you will get options to search/ re-install driver et,c.

thankyou for using Fixya.
