That depends on what kind of mp3 player it is. If it is a Coby then just hold in the play button until it turns on.

I need step by step instructions on how to work this

MP3 players can only play music files in mp3 file format. You can download mp3 music files from the Internet toyour computer and then copy them to your MP3 player using the USB cable from the MP3 player to your computer. For your CD collection, you need to convert your CDs tomp3 music files onto your computer or download them from the Internet and thencopy them to your MP3 player after you have connected the USB cable tothe MP3 player and the computer.
You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player willcreate a MP3 music file for each music track.Click on this link for instruction on converting musicfiles to mp3 file format :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r5798418-creating_transferring_mp3_music_files

How do you download songs to your MP3Player?

How to load an MP3 player without using Windows Media Player. First, allow me to clarify a few things so that there is less confusion: When you connect an mp3 player to a computer, you will not be able to use it until it's disconnected. In other words, the only thing you should do while the player is plugged into the computer is adding or deleting files. You can't use the buttons on the player while it's communicating with the computer, and as long as it's connected to the USB port, it's communicating. Ok, let's get started! Step 1 Connect the player to your USB port using the cable that came with it. (NOTE): If the player has a male USB connector already on it, connect the player directly into the computer without using the cable. In other words, only use a cable if you have to. Step 2 Click the "Start" button or press the key on the keyboard that has the Windows logo, and go to My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Vista). Step 3 Locate your MP3 player on this screen. Do not close this window; just minimize it. (NOTE): It should show up under Devices with Removable Storage or as a device under "Other." Most importantly, it should show up on this screen as something! When the player is connected, you should have something on this screen (usually an icon of some sort) that represents the player. This lets you know that the unit is ready to receive files because it's being recognized by your computer. Step 4 Locate and open the folder that contains your music files. Step 5 Using the mouse, copy one or more files. (Right mouse click on file, then left mouse click on copy) Step 6 Go back to the "My Computer" or "Computer" screen, right mouse click on the icon representing the player and left mouse click on paste. You should see a small status bar appear showing the file(s) being copied from your music folder to the player. Step 7 Click on the Safe to Remove icon found in your system tray and disconnect the player. And that's it! If you need additional assistance, I will help in any way that I can.

If you feel this solution doesn't deserve a good rating, please let me know why so that I may better assist you. If there is anything more I can do to help, I will!

Not Working

I work for Coby technical support. Our customer service phone number is 1-800-727-3592.

Unfortunately, if the unit is charged and not coming on, or not staying on, it is defective and needs to be replaced. The unit has a 90 warranty from the date of purchase. You will need the receipt in order to receive a warranty replacement.

As fas as how to get songs onto the player, please see below.
