It does have a thermal safety and it very well could be the problem. I

We had the same problem. The on/off switch is likely to be broken inside. We tried to fix it but its likely the pcb is damaged. If you contact Delonghi direct they will help resolve. They sent us a new heater (10yr guarantee)!
