Question about Hitachi 60V500 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
I have a 60" Hitachi LCD Projection that has developed a pink or fuscia hue while the TV is dispalying anything on a dark screen. The hue is oval, centered on the screen and takes approximately 1/2 of the display. It is so bad that any dark scene on a movie is not viewable. My hunch is that it might be the bulb, but I'm not sure. If it is the bulb, is there a trick to replacing it? Thanks for the assistance, Greg
You have a defective light engine. We just went through this and here's what you need to do...there is hope. Call Hitachi's customer realtions department at 800-654-7013 and tell them what the set is doing and that you have a defective light engine. Now, they will initially act like they've never heard of this but they have. They will however give you the names of some certified dealers in your area to call. Once you call the dealer and a tech comes out and confirms that you have a bad light engine, takes less than 1 minute, call Hitachi's customer realtions department back at the number I listed above.
Once you call and tell Hitachi that you had a tech out, all of a sudden, they will acknowlege the problem and they will call the dealer you used to confirm it. Once they've confirmed that it is a bad light engine, Hitachi will send a BRAND NEW light engine directly to the dealer and the dealer will call you to come out and install. HITACHI WILL COVER THIS PART regardless if you're still under warranty or not.
Here's the kicker, if your not under warranty, Hitachi will cover the part, but you will have to pay for the install. Our install was $400 but worth is to us on a $3600 TV we've only had 3+ years.
DO NOT let any dealer or store tell you that you will have to pay for this part. Hitachi will cover the cost of the part (around $1500). Hitachi has not recalled this part (they should) but they are replacing it FOR FREE.
The 800 # I've listed above is directly to Hitachi's customer relations department. Please deal with them and not Hitachi customer service. Customer service will not help you at all.
Once our light engine was replaced, our TV is like BRAND NEW! GOOD LUCK:)

It is most likely a bad light engine. Call Hitachi Customer Relations 1-800-654-7013. Do not call customer service. Call curtomer relations. Mine was 8 months out of waranty and they overnighted the new light engine (at no cost) to the authorized service dealer and he put it in for $200. 3 days later my picture is better than new. I wasted several hours with customer service. The first phone call I made to customer relations resolved the problem. They will make you take the TV to an authorized repair facility and pay for the install but it is well worth the time and money. The part alone is $1500.

VARIAN SPEAKS THE TRUTH!!
Just yesterday i called them saying my engine light had gone bad and they denied the problem. The key is to keep asking for their supervisor of whoever you are talking to. Now, they are shipping the entire engine light with no cost to me! Thank you varian you saved me a lot of money.

The problem is likely in the optical engine assembly, part number UX22203D and must be replaced as a unit. Cost of the part should be less than $1500. Not a DIY job I'm afraid. The part may be available as a rebuilt unit at less than $700 plus installation. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. If you're VERY lucky, it could be a bad connection which would probably be intermittent in nature.
