How do I format a memory card for a fuji finepix S602?

I took the card out for the first time in about 6 years for less then 30 seconds and when I put it back in, I got the error, card must be formatted and lost my pictures. Number 1, how do I format the card? Number 2, will I ever get my pictures back? It was of my dog when she was a pup.

SOURCE: i cant change the file format on my fuji finepix

I'm no expert - just visiting this forum for a 'card not initialised' problem on the same model. If you a have look in the solution to 'card not initialised' problem raised elsewhere in this forum someone has helpfully explained how to format the card (if that is your problem) by using a DOS command in Windows (scroll to bottom as the advice that was initially given was corrected). You will need a USB card reader to do it. The format of the media card seems to be FAT.

However if you mean you want to save the images in .raw data form I had a look in the manual but there doesn't seem to be an option in the s602 to save in anything other than .jpg - unless someone else knows more.

Fuji Fine Pix S602 Z Memory card formatting problem

Looking at the original advertisements for that camera, it is only advertised as having memory cards up to 1Gb. You might find that the problem is that the camera doesn't support a card as big as 4Gb. You can probably check this in your manual.

I cannot format cards in my Fuji S602 zoom.

Make sure your card is compatible for your camera, and or it is not defective. I know that with some camera models the card must meet specific specs. Consult your camera dealer or call Fuji photo support to verify if your card is compatible.

If you have the adabtor for your card to be used directly on your computer, you can see if formating your card with the computer will help. This is not the proper fix, but it may work for you.

Card initialization

If you have a memory card reader on your computer you may need to insert the cameras memory card and then goto My Computer and right click where the card is located and click format.

Memory card

Because this camera only understads FAT16 formatting, it does not accept any card larger than 2GB so your best bet is to use the current crop of standard 2GB CF cards, most newer ones (usually 16X and faster) are alsa fast enough for continuous VGA video as well. The best brands IMO are Lexar and Sandisk, but avoid the WA enabled cards, this camera can't make use of WA, it just slows the througput down.

Alternatively you may partition your 8GB card to a 2GB partition, but the rest of the card won't be accessible.

Fuji finepix s602

Usually a bad card in my experience - I'm too tight to buy decent cards, and quite a few have given me problems. Luckily they're quite cheap nowadays!!

You could try using a PC with card reader to format them first, and cleaning the contacts carefully.

Hope this helps.
