Projection tv has a red '' aura'' / red blurry spot in the center
When the tv is turned on and the screen is black or dark, you can notice a large red spot type ''aura'' almost looks like a light red blurry cloud...But when the picture is white or bright color, you can't really see anything of the spot, the picture looks ok.. Wondering if their may be a bulb out in the tv causing this and if it's worth fixing.

You have to take front projection screen off of tv. When you have taken screen off, turn on tv and observe light coming from the three crts. Look into the face of each crt and you will notice some contamination inside face of one of the crts. Most crts are sealed, so youll have to replace the burnt crt causing spot on picture.
OUCH! LARGE DARK SPOT IN CENTER IS NOT GOOD FOR PROJECTION TV. YOU BURNT THE TUBES. THE LOSS OF COLOR IS THE ROOT CAUSE SOUNDS LIKE A DEFLECTION CIRCUIT PROBLEM. THE TIMING FEEDBACK IS USED TO SYNC THE COLOR CIRCUIT. IF THE TUBES LIGHT WITHOUT DEFLECTION THEY BURN THE CENTER PHOSPHOR COATING INSIDE.
I have the same tv and the same problem, but my yellow is a cloud around the outside of the screen. My tv was recently moved, and a repair shop told me that sometimes in a move these tvs light engine takes a shock and causes a yellow "band" on the screen. I am hearing that these light engines are not cheap either. Hope this helps you.
There are many causes for spots on top of an LCD rear projection tv, you are probably in the first two cases, both require part replacements and repair job.
If the spots are faint blue, green or pink shadows, then it can be a problem with the anti polarization panel placed on top of the LCD.
Similar spots (colored shadows) may be caused by a problem with the light engine, in that case the fix will be expensive.
If the spots are bright lights, like an aura, that is a problem with the color wheel.
Problems on the light tunnel can cause static gray shadows.
If the spots are static dark stains than that is lcd liquid, the LCD panel must be replaced.
I have the same TV, and I was getting the black spots on my screen as well. It is dust settling on the bottom mirror. Yoiu can call Mitsubishi and spend 150-200 on getting it cleaned, or you can do like I did and take the front panel off and the 10 screws around the edge on the back of the black plastic border around the screen. Then lift up gently and have someone hold the screen for you and gently dust the bottom mirror. I did this by myself, but it would be wise to have 2 people do it.
Your light engine will need to be replaced as you have a LCD panel failure. Here is the link to the part number for the model 50V500 if you have the 50V500A it has a different part number. http://www.partstore.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductSKU=8286849&ProductType=PART&ModelID=374014
