ITT Mariner 160 - How to open the case...

How do I open the case of my 160? I removed the five holding screws but the two halves of the case would not separate. I was concerned about using too much pressure for fear of breaking something. I need to re-seat one of the AAA battery contacts. Help and advice is needed. Fred1

Will not power on

Hello, these ITT Night Mariner 160 monocular are almost impossible to work on. To make them water proof every joint, hole, cap are epoxyed on. Check the internet and look for companies that manufacture materials that will desolve epoxy cement and even better stuff is that it makes the epoxy really soft for it can be removed. Sorry dude I couldn't be more help. stewbison

How to reset

Hello, Just remove the batteries. Also the batteries should be alkaline batteries. Not lithium, Ni-Cd, Mercury etc. Now, I'm giving you a little trick that I learn over many years work with electronics. Take piece of wire and make sure the batteries are remove. Take piece of tape and tape one end of the wire to the positive side (+), all it will be is little shinny plate. Now take the other end of the wire and tape it to the shinny spring this the negative side(-). Rember, there are two "AA" or "AAA" batteries.

The wire goes from + of 1st battery end in the battery compartment to negative side (-) of the second battery spring (-). Rember!! NO BATTERIES, while you are doing this operation. Let the wire stay on the battery terminal in the battery compartment for 5 minutes or so. What is does if the electrolytic capacitor is holding and want drop the current which switch is turn off, it will now.

Reinstall the correct batteries then turn on your ITT Mariner 160 monocular. GB...stewbison

How to open my MicroSolutions External DVD drives' case, I am interested in using the case for a new internal drive. Thanks!

I can't give you exact information, only generic.

The case comes apart in two halves. A top half, and a bottom half. This is evidenced by the parting line in the middle.
There are screws which should hold the two case halves together.

Generally they are hidden underneath labels. The label, or thin blue plastic cover is peeled back to expose the screw heads.
Screws may have a Philips head, or a Torx head. (Internal star shape)

After removing the screws it may take an additional force, to 'pop' the two case halves apart.

Whats the procedure for changeing air filters in a yamaha royal star tour deluxe 2005

This procedure must be performed on both sides - you'll find the air filter cases mounted high, immediately behind the cowlings. Yamaha specifies removing the cowlings, but I just remove the top screw in the front of the cowling and bend it forward slightly to get to screws and bolts.

The air cleaner cases are mounted by hex-head screws top and bottom; loosen them, then look for a large rubber hose from the case to a duct beside the case. The case is held by a flexible clamp with a phillips-head screw adjustment - loosen the screw and the case can be removed.

Turn the case so that the rubber hose is facing up; there are five screws holding the case halves together. Remove them to split the case. The filter is secured to the side of the case that the rubber hose joins, loosen the two screws in the front (forward-facing) of the filter and remove.

Secure new filter with the screws that held the old one, rejoin the case halves, put the case behind the cowling, secure the rubber hose to the duct, screw top and bottom bolts through the case to their mounts, tighten cowling mounts.

Repeat on the other side and you're done!

Want to open my maxtor one touch, any idea of the best way, and what is that small openning at the back

It's a pain but you can do it if you are careful. Remove 2 screws on back panel, then gently remove back panel. Now work on side/front panel (one piece) GENTLY. They have little plastic clips that will pop out if you are careful. The you can remove 2 more screws on side that hold metal halves together. Top comes of clamshell style. Good luck !
