Remove the black ink cartridge and examine the print head on it - you will probably find a small piece of tape (very thin) covering the jets - usually blue in color - remove it and reinstall the cartridge.

Run a few "print-head-cleaning" cycles, to get the black ink flowing through the ink-jets inside the print-head.
Some printers REQUIRE an "alignment" step every time you change the ink-cartridges.
It only takes a few minutes, and it prints one or two pages of paper.
Open up All printers and faxes by right clicking the printer icon in the system tray.On the maintenence tab check your black ink.Check to se if the tape is stil on the carftridge. If it is remove it. Printer should print black ink once the tape is removed.If it is removed. Try changing your black ink for a new one. Also sometimes your ink may not be compatible. Make sure you use compatible ink
In my case this happened with black cartridge out of ink, colour cartridge low; replaced black: had permanent alignment problem, though test print looked OK; wouldn't print black. Replaced colour cartridge, then it all worked OK, straightaway!
Does the printer attempt to print? Did you replace the black or colored ink? If it was the black ink will it print in color? If it prints in color, check the black ink cartridge for tape residue on the gold contacts. The blue tape will sometimes leave the adhesive on the cartridge and not the tape. It cleans off easy with a soft cloth.
As suggested a couple of minutes ago, with a fresh cartridge installed, disconnect power (unplug) and let the unit rest for an hour or so and then reconnect it.
