Hi Adrien, the easiest way to set a picture as a Windows background is to open the picture in your web browser and right click on it. A menu box should appear, about half way down you should see an option labeled *Set as Background*. Left click on that option and Windows will automatically use that picture as you background image and tile it to fill your entire desktop. Alternatively if you have Windows XP and use the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer program to display the picture the process is the same except when you right click on the picture the selection will be *Set as Desktop Background*. When you select that option it will do the same thing. If you don?t like the tiled effect right click on the desktop and select properties from the popup menu. In the display properties box that appears click on the Desktop tab, and in the lower right hand corner you will see a field labeled *Position*. Left click on the pull down arrow and select center or stretch, depending on what effect you want. Let us know if you need any other help and don?t forget to rate the posting.

Windows 7 Starter edition comes with one desktop background, which can't be changed or customized. Please see this link for details.

To change the desktop background

Under How should the picture be positioned, choose to have the picture fit the screen, tile, or be centered on the screen, and then click OK.
If you choose to have a centered picture as your desktop background, you can also have a color background to frame your picture. Under How should the picture be positioned, click Change background color, click a color, and then click OK.
Open Desktop Background by clicking the Start button and clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type desktop background, and then click Change desktop background.
Click the picture or color that you want to use for your desktop background.
If the picture you want to use isn't in the list of desktop background pictures, click an item in the Picture location list to see other categories, or click Browse to search for the picture on your computer. When you find the picture that you want, double-click it. It will become your desktop background.
Look for pictures in other locations on your computer
Under Picture position, click the arrow and choose whether to crop the picture to fill the screen, fit the picture to the screen, stretch the picture to fit the screen, tile the picture, or center the picture on the screen, and then click Save changes.
If you choose to have a fitted or centered picture as your desktop background, you can also frame your picture with a color background. Under Picture position, click Fit or Center. Click Change background color, click a color, and then click OK.
Tip
To make any picture stored on your computer (or a picture you are currently viewing) your desktop background, right-click the picture, and then click Set as Desktop Background.

Click on the Start menu button. Then click on Settings and then on Control Panel.
Double-click on the Display icon or text link. This will open a window named Display Properties.
Click on Background if that tab is not selected. Click on one of the items that appear in the box labeled Wallpaper.
Inspect the preview that appears above the Wallpaper menubox. Use the Display menu to the right to experiment with tiling, stretching or centering the picture that you are previewing.
Click on Browse to use an image stored elsewhere on your hard drive. Locate the image and click Open.
Click OK to change your background, or wallpaper. Click Cancel if you decide to maintain your current settings.
