sounds like your compressor is overheating is the compressor sweating down the sides? If it is you may have an airflow problem clean filters, clean blower fan motor and the evaporator coil. if this does not work you will need to have someone put a set of manifold gauges on it to see if the proper pressures are where they need to be. Also you can check the amps on the compressor to see if it is sezing or if it is locking out. The compressor is getting to hot is the reason when you squirt water on it runs because you are cooling it down. have you cleaned the condensor coil? Your head and suction pressures will give you a good idea.

Have evaporator coil 2 tons and condensor 2 1/2 can i make my coil 2 1/2 changing the piston?

This mixmatch will work but during times of low temps ( during rain or at night) you may liquid flood the compressor, Watch your super heat at the compressor or your (line temp verses press relation).  http://www.1coolair.com/houston_ac_news/blog.php?BlogID=10

Evaporator comes on, but the condensor unit does'nt.

Have u checked at the compressor unit. There is a contactor than energizes the compressor is this contactor getting supply when u turn on the evaporator this contactor get energized see if this happens. If this is energized and you are getting supply to the compressor and compressor doesn't turn on 1.) compressor has thermal protection this might be faulty 2.) or the compressor has too much freon 3.) check if the windings of the compressor motor are not short to ground

I need help selecting the best Amana 5 ton furnace/ac.

I believe you are asking which furnace to go with?

Just some clarification first.

The "condensor" is the outdoor unit.
A "Compressor" is the device inside the outdoor unit that pumps and "compresses" the refridgerant.

An evaporator is the indoor coil, it has refridgerant running through it.

The furnace is completely seperat from the condensor and evaporator.

I "THINK" you are saying that you are looking to buy an AMANA system with a 5 ton 14 to 16 SEER condensor, and a furnace, but you need suggestions on the furnace.

typically when you purchace a condensor, the evaporator coil is simply matched by the manufacturer to the specific condensor you purchace, there is no choosing to deal with. All condensors ofcourse come with a compressor already installed.

If my assumption about your request is correct, maybe this will help.

Amana's 90+ furnaces are great units. I would recomend them to anyone. The 80+ uses a somewhat inferior heat exchanger, and is ofcourse less efficient.
Anything higher than a 90+ can take quite a while to recoup the costs of the enitial purchace through your efficiency savings.

If it were my home, I would go with the 90+ furnace, and the 16 SEER Condensor/evaporator system. But ultimatly, its up to you, your efficiency standards and your wallets potential.

If you live in a northern state where AC is little needed, I'd go with the 14 SEER AC.
Again, an initial cost verses long term savings issue.
