Question about Labtec Webcam Pro

2 Answers

Background Noise I've just got the Labtec Webcam Pro and am strting to think there is something wrong with it or else i'm being daft somewhere. When i bring up the audio settings on the control panel then to begin with everything is alright. The audio bar moves up and down as i speak. Then after a while, even if i'm not speaking, it moves to about 3/4 of the way along the bar and is constantly at that point. It's as though it is picking up background noise even though there isn't any. If i try recording while its like this i can't be heard it just sounds like a tv when its not tuned into a channel. If i'm talking to someone on messenger then we have to hang up and disconnet every couple of minutes. This fixes it to begin with then it suddenly goes again. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm wondering whether this solution has helped anyone so far
and if so, what did you actually do, as the instructions above are kinda vague

First update your sound drivers if not already. If you are using a laptop, dissable the inbuilt microphone as this causes echo and feed back. Click Start>Run, then type 'dxdiag' to check that there are no audio or video conflicts. Ensure that the audio and video has been set up in messenger as well as with the provided cam software. Upgrade to windows live also, if you haven't already.

I need to update my labtec webcam/mic driver to work with windows 7 can this be done

First check the labtec website to see if they have a Windows 7 driver for it.
If not, it might be that Windows 7 supports the webcam directly, but I guess you have tried that.
Last option is to look for a compatible webcam driver for Windows 7 which is not from Labtec. This is possible since Labtec uses third party webcam components. Try using a driver finder application for that.

Problemtoinstall with Windows 7

I could not find the Windows 7 64-bit drivers on Labtec website. However, I would suggest to download & install the Windows Vista 64-bit drivers.

Here's how to download them:
1. Go to:,crid=68,crid2=1764
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page to the section "Software for Labtec Notebook WebCam, Webcam Pro, WebCam Plus, plus SE and labtec® webcam".
3. From the "- Select Your Operating System -" drop-down menu, select "Windows Vista 64-bit".
4. From the "- Select Your Language -" drop-down menu, select "English".
5. Click on the "download" button to start the download.

Webcam problem /windows vista

WRONG .... i wish people did research before thinking they know everything ....... and its not Vista more of Labtec, with certain old usb labtec cams, they decided to stop all support on them, there fore the latest drivers from labtec for vista may mean it wont work. There are ways around it but u need to be lucky and find drivers which are version 6 or below first for it to work.

I connect XP to XP, with skype on both sides. One of the sides seems fine, but the other one (which is mine), gets this noise every minute
