The power light comes on, but there is no picture. It shows the input and then goes all black
I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:
ISSUES:
1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.
Answers to issues:
1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.
2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.
Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.
What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.
3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buyand try a board to see if it fixes it or not.
4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in thisphoto.

Hi zippie, Based on your post/description, I am inclined to suspect the backlight which is actually a CCF a small fluorescent tube about 2mm diameter the width of your display either at the very top or bottom of the screen. At times it can also be the inverter circuitry that powers up the said tube. One way is to run your PC and display as if nothing is wrong giving it a minute or soto finished booting everything. If looking closely you will notice semblance of your desktop albeit very faint, very dark or using a flashlight provide illumination to the display at an angle and the display is there, then chances are it is the backlight. Otherwise, it can be the input circuitry. Of course you have to open the monitor up and replace the defective component, More often than not no soldering required. Hope this gives you an idea or two. Lots of luck and pls post again how things turn up. If

Power suplly. In my case I should have done research on a lot of
things before purchase - westinghouse doe snot acknowled any power
supplly uissue but they would say that, and this is a direct quote from
them, "Westinghouse's failure rate is less than 2%, which is great by
industry standards. Unfortunately, when you sell millions of
televisions, 2% is still a lot of televisions. There have been no
recalls on this model (or any of our models), but it's not surprising
to find a similiar issue on more than one of millions of televisions."
In other words they calim there is nothing that is really their
fault. However the first thing the repair guy said before he even
looked at it was "Power supply". He opened it up and tested - power
suplly. However to complicate matters more I made is huge mistake of
buying into a scam offered by eCost via Service.net . A two year, 100%,
in home service, warranty. Bottom line is since June 8 my Monitors has
not worked and sine July 7 it has been sitting untouched, not here, but
at a rprair facily over 50 miles away. As of yesterday August 7, I was
told Westinghouse no longer makes or provides power supplies for this
unit. On top of that the repair facility will not return it to me
unless i pick it up why? Because it can't be fixed and because
service.net will not pay them to return it to me.
So solution at thi point for anyone with power supply issues is
to try and repiar it yourself. And then in the future never purchase
anything from westinghouse again. (And if offered any sort of 100% all
cost covere din home warrabnty from service.net run away screaming)

sems like your pisture tube for the tv is going slowly out. replace the tube or replace the tv, its cheaper to replace the tv then a new tv screen colour tube.
